Hours Casual Employment. Anticipated workdays are 3 to 5 days per week, usually on a Monday to Friday. The staff member will need to be available to work between the hours of 7:30 am and 5:00pm Location This position is to be based at the Leaf, Root & Fruit Head Quarters in Burwood. The role may involve travel to clients’ gardens across Melbourne. Purpose of the position This entry level position is designed to develop the successful applicant’s skills, as well as providing administrative and technical support to the Director. In this role the successful applicant will hold a strong understanding of permaculture garden design and principles. Their passion for creating sustainable edible garden landscapes will inspire and support our clients and the general public. The successful applicant will be a “dilettante” and is expected to contribute to the general operations of most streams of the business. This includes opportunities to liaise with clients, coordination of facilities and systems, plant propagation and laboring on foodscape implementations. The successful applicant’s hours will increase, as they gain experience and become more independent. As their level of responsibility increases and the business grows, it is expected that they will transition into a full-time, permanent position. Responsibilities & duties Responsibility 1 – Participate in permaculture design projects from concept to completion. Support the Director with edible garden designs. Learn and apply design techniques. Provide continuous constructive input and feedback to the Director. The Junior Permaculture Designer & Operations Assistant will assist with: • site analysis and measurement • base mapping • compiling client briefs • update of design portfolios • technical drawings (using SketchUp) • site photography • liaising with clients • input into the final landscape design • Aid with updating and maintaining the plant database Work standard: Support the development of a system for the Leaf Root & Fruit design process. Listening to constructive feedback to hone skills and improve designs. Pitch creative ideas that enhance designs. Delivering design documents that are professional, aesthetic, informative and in a standard aligned with the Leaf, Root & Fruit core values. A high level of attention to detail is needed to ensure that designs are accurate, practical and meet the needs of our clients. The business requires staff to be well organised and to adhere to timelines. A degree of flexibility to deal with the changing demands of this role is ess ential. Staff will, at times, be expected to work independently. Responsibility 2 – Provide operations and administrative support to business. This may include (but are not limited to): • Liaise with clients • Participate in site visits and with the compilation of client surveys. • Administration tasks • Assisting to run workshops Work standard: As part of the design process good communication with clients is important. Communication skills are integral to providing a great customer experience, and to get the best possible outcome for the client’s vision for their garden design. Staff are required to be professional, punctual and courteous towards our clients. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word programs. Responsibility 3 – Provide labour support to implement foodscapes and assist with the plant propagation program. Including: • Cut timber and assemble garden beds • Implementation of foodscapes and garden designs • Plant Propagation • Weeding and other gardening related tasks Page 2 of 4 Work standard: Staff will need to be familiar with basic carpentry and a high level of precision when cutting the timber. This role involves heavy lifting and hard, physical labour. Foodscapes and other projects are implemented with a high level of attention to detail and efficiency. Staff must follow safe work practices and adhere to OH&S standards as laid out in the Staff Handbook. Academic & trades qualifications Essential qualifications • Permaculture Design Certificate • A full, manual driver’s license • A current Working with Children Check Desirable qualifications • Horticulture Qualifications (such as Cert IV in Landscape Design or Construction) • Computer Assisted Design (CAD) training course Work experience & skills Essential experience • Strong experience with CAD design software. • Good literacy skills, and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing • Good computer literacy, including the ability to use the entire MS Office Suite & Adobe Photoshop • Demonstrated experience in client management, customer service • Experience with basic landscape construction and carpentry • Ability to tow and reverse a trailer • Experience with Permaculture Design Desirable experience • Experience with growing fruit and vegetables, including the ability to identify common varieties. • Strong experience in landscaping, irrigation and/or paving • Experience with Landscape Implementation • Experience with sales and marketing • Experience with running workshops and coordinating events Page 3 of 4 Personal qualities & behavioural traits • Ambitious • Solid time management and organizational skills • Acute attention to detail • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally • Ability to work independently and to fill various roles within a team environment • Confidence in liaising with clients • Ability to accept constructive criticism and praise • Honesty, including the ability to take responsibility and ownership of successes and failures • Reliable and punctual Relationships • This role will report to the Director • This role will have no direct reports • This role will liaise with the Foodscaper to ensure designs are practical and that implementation will be smooth. • This role requires mutual collaboration and support with all LRF staff members. • The role will involve direct contact with clients, in person, via email and by telephone. • LRF staff will, interact with members of the public. When doing so, they are to professionally represent the business as per as the Staff Handbook.
