Plot - Con Kidder and Kid Conner are two American con men stuck in Holland without the funds to return to their beloved New York City. They've managed to talk their way through some days at the Red Mill Inn, but the Burgomaster and his sister Berta the Inn Keeper are on to their little game and demand payment or work in return. There just happens to be a waiter job open and a tourist guide job open - it's jail or work. Meanwhile Gretchen loves Dori but is going to be forced by the Burgomaster to marry the old Governor. Gretchen ends up locked in the Old Mill, Dori is locked up in jail and the outlook is bleak - that is until Con and Kid come to the rescue. During the second act, everyone spends most of their time hunting for the suddenly missing Gretchen. The Burgomaster is so desperate he hires Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson thinking they are Copyright ©2021 - VHSource, LLC - http://vherbert.com _PN_PAGE 1 _PN_OF 2 real people. Of course all turns out well in the end. This new libretto solves the problem of the lack of information regarding what exactly the vaudevillians Montgomery & Stone did in the original show. Score highlights include: "The Streets of New York," "Whistle It," "Moonbeams," "Mignonette," "I Want You to Marry Me," "Isle of Our Dreams," "Everyday Is Ladies Day," "Just Because You're You," "The Legend of the Mill," and "I'm Always Doing Something I Don't Want To Do."
