St. Thecla Catholic Church October 27th, 2019 RENEW MY CHURCH Lord Jesus, You speak to us today, as You spoke to holy men and women who have gone before us. In every age and in our own time, You call to us and say: Renew My Church. Pour out the gift of Your Holy Spirit upon us, and so enable us to hear You clearly, to listen to each other attentively, to imagine our future boldly, to discern Your direction wisely, to persevere in Your holy will courageously, to stay together in charity, to surrender our own plans readily, to embrace the greater good, to hand on Your gifts to future generations. May we remain in the holy company of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the apostles and all the saints. May their example and presence inspire us with patient confidence in the work of Your grace. We ask this of You who live and reign with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. 6725 W. Greg Rom – October 27, 2019 This weekend– at all 3 Masses: 2018 – 2019 Parish Financial Report… …by members of our Parish Finance Council. Your questions can be put in our “questions & suggestions box”. This Friday, November 1 – All Saints Day – Masses: 8:30am – 10:00am – 7:00pm (FYI: no School on Friday; so, no School Mass) Saturday, November 2 – All Souls Day – Mass: 8:30am (The 5:00pm Mass will be the ordinary Sunday Vigil Mass. – not an All Souls Day Mass.) On this coming Saturday night, November 2, Daylight Savings Time ends. Set your clocks back one hour. “Fall back” and enjoy. Continuing from last Sunday’s bulletin – in addition to our weekly “RMC Update” – a few more thoughts for our prayer : In the Old Testament, when the people of Israel were experiencing very difficult times, God told the people through Jeremiah the prophet (Ch. 29, vs. 11): “I know well the plans I have in mind for you, plans for your welfare, not for woe! plans to give you a future of hope.” Here’s a little more from St. Augustine’s lesson that was in last Sunday’s bulletin: “Why God should ask us to pray, when God knows what we need before we ask, may perplex us if we do not realize that our Lord and God does not want to know what we want (for God cannot fail to know it) but God wants us rather to exercise our desire through our prayers, so that we may be able to receive what God is preparing to give us.” God knows that no one wants their parish or school to close. God wants all of us to be open to a renewal of Jesus’ Church so that we can increase the quality and quantity of our “handing on Jesus’ gifts of faith, hope and love to future generations”. As St. Augustine said, “God wants us to exercise our desire through our prayers, so that we may be able to receive what God is prepar- ing to give us.” There’s a saying: “You can’t change the past, but you can ruin a perfectly good present by worrying about the future.” I don’t want to add to anyone’s worries about the future, but none of our 3 Parishes and neither of our 2 Schools are having a “perfectly good present”. None of the six RMC scenarios are perfect either. Renewal and revitalization is needed. I hope that the end of the Serenity Prayer can influence our prayer: “Trusting that You, God, will make all things right if I surrender to Your will; so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with You forever in the next.” (More next Sunday…) 4 RMC Update #37 (10-27-19) All feedback from all St. Cornelius, St. Tarcissus & St. Thecla parishioners on the strengths & challenges of all 6 scenarios was presented last Monday to the RMC Executive Committee. The RMC Executive Committee met with the RMC Commission yesterday (Saturday) to discuss recommendations for our Grouping and 5 more Groupings. The Commission will make recom- mendations to the Archdiocesan Presbyteral Council (the priests advisory council). On Monday, November 4, the pastors of the 6 Groupings (20 Parishes) will meet to prepare for the November 8 meetings. (I will not be available for a funeral on Monday, November 4.) Cardinal Cupich will meet and consult with the Presbyteral Council on Tuesday, November 5 about all 6 Groupings. Their agenda will include other Archdiocesan business as well. The Cardinal will finalize his decision, and it will be announced on Friday, November 8. The “announcement meeting” for the parishioners of all 3 Parishes will be here in our church at 7:00pm. (because all of the RMC GFDT meetings have been here – not because we already know the Cardinal’s decision) In the afternoon, there will be meetings for the Faculty & Staff of our 2 Schools, for the employees of our 3 Parishes, and for the GFDT of all 3 Parishes. The “activation” of the decision will be on July 1, 2020. Our 2019-2020 School Year & Parish Year will continue as usual. Some preparations will happen before 7-1-20. Much work will happen after 7-1-20. Past Sunday bulletins are available on our Parish website: www.saintthecla.org , and some bulletins from previous Sundays are available in the ushers room. RenewMy- Church.org has lots of information. Our Grouping Partners’ bulletins can be found at www.stcornelius.org and www.sttars.org Friday, November 8 – when the Cardinal’s decision will be announced – is now only 1 week away from this coming Friday. I encourage all of us to pray the “Renew My Church” prayer and other prayers – yes, for ourselves and also for the St. Cornelius and St. Tarcissus parish- ioners and the Pope Francis Global Academy students, families and School staff and also for the Renew My Church Executive Committee & Commission and also for Cardinal Cupich.
