Jay Rector 3595 Lochmill Drive 770-878-3126 Loganville, Georgia 30052 [email protected] In-depth experience in Consumer and Enterprise Products: Automotive, Wireless Telecom, Data Services Hire me for innovative product programs, business development and marketing strategies! I am looking to use my skills and experiences to help your team grow revenues with innovative products and services using effective business development, product management and marketing programs. Professional Summary I started my career in automotive selling auto parts, and buying and selling used cars at auto auctions. After college I sold computer POS and Inventory systems to auto dealers, and eventually I created a career in wireless telecom. I succeeded in both sales and product marketing by becoming an advocate for my customers and promoting new technologies, products and services that best solved my customer’s problems. Selling ideas is my number one strength. In 1999 I convinced BellSouth executive leaders that we needed new mobile products and services; we needed a browser on every cell phone, to create applications that use interactive text messaging, to embed modems and wireless radios in devices other than cell phones, and we needed to use cell phone location as an application and solution tool, not just for e911. I authored overarching corporate strategies, created business and specific product and marketing requirements, concluded business cases and was a key contributor for wireless data services in the merger of BellSouth with Southwest Bell to form Cingular. I don’t just write go-to-market plans, I deliver excitement that internal teams, external partners and customers need to make “buy” decisions. As a customer advocate I embrace opportunities to help find or develop the best product or service and uniquely create programs, more than just marketing campaigns, to promote the benefits for solutions they must rely upon. I help client’s realize essential business goals by moving ideas to revenue. 2013 - 2015 ClearSky Technologies VP Strategic Sales (2014 & 2015) Director Product Management (2013 & 2014) ClearSky is an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) company that helps wireless telecom operators with back office data services – phone browsing services, messaging, content, and network monitoring and traffic shaping. ClearSky needed my help to evolve products and services and create a new marketing strategy to meet needs of the Tier 1 telecom and cable operators who were buying their smaller and regional/Tier 3 carrier clients and traditionally would move those outsourced IaaS processes in-house with their own backend infrastructure. With 80% of wireless phone and data usage indoors we all need better coverage, but consumers don’t all use the same wireless carrier, and no one was selling a solution to enable better coverage for all the major wireless operators. I restructured ClearSky’s legacy product mix to better fit market changes and developed a new marketing model which enabled AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint to fulfill enterprise and end user consumer customer needs for premium wireless coverage indoors with a unique Neutral Host Small Cell program. 1997 - 2013 AT&T (Houston Cellular / BellSouth Mobility / Cingular) Chief Technology Office / Architecture and Planning Leadership (2008 – 2013) Marketing New Product Development (1997 – 2008) Pre AT&T, at Houston Cellular I created an industry first ‘data only’ subscription and introduced the Interactive Pager, a text based device and service (precursor to Blackberry). Executives requested my move to Atlanta where I wrote the go-to-market strategy for BellSouth Mobility to evolve cellular data services for the consumer mass market, not just businesses. I helped gain C-level and BOD consensus for a new business strategy based on billing data services, not just voice, and was part of the evolution of the regional cellular phone company to ultimately become a world renowned wireless data operator; AT&T. I orchestrated multiple cross-functional teams that included internal employees, contractors, vendors and partners who together implemented projects building data network infrastructure, new applications, and new revenue categories. We executed end–to-end product commercialization including new platforms and systems, business and sales processes, and customer support services. We also had to develop and launch a completely new marketing approach. These accomplishments led to a 10x growth in revenue in the first 3 years. I lead the evolution of legacy Product Marketing and generated excitement promoting new trends and methods. Notably I helped create a multi-billion dollar market for third party apps to interact with wireless devices and consumer users. I wrote strategies for both A-GPS and network based location services and helped deploy an innovative consumer and enterprise data privacy solution. In 2013 I led the strategies for AT&T’s Drive Studio, a global Connected Car program. I have led small and large software projects and I am the co-author of multiple patents.
