Vice Admiral Satish Soni Assumes Duties of Flag Officer Commanding in Chief, Southern Naval Command

News Release (Kochi) - 31 May 12 VICE ADMIRAL SATISH SONI ASSUMES DUTIES OF FLAG OFFICER COMMANDING IN CHIEF, SOUTHERN NAVAL COMMAND Vice Admiral Satish Soni inspecting the Parade accompanied by Vice Admiral KN Sushil Vice Admiral Satish Soni assumed the office of the Flag Officer Commanding in Chief, Southern Naval Command at Kochi on 31 May 12. He succeeded Vice Admiral KN Sushil, who retired from the Naval service on 31 May 12, after nearly forty years of distinguished service. Vice Admiral Satish Soni was commissioned into the Navy in July 1976. A winner of the “Sword of Honour” and a specialist in Navigation and Aircraft Direction, the Admiral’s important sea commands include commands of Stealth Frigate INS Talwar, Guided Missile Destroyer INS Delhi, Missile Corvette INS Kirpan and Eastern Fleet. Vice Admiral Soni has also been Chief of Staff of Eastern Naval Command and Commandant of the prestigious National Defence Academy at Kahadakwasla, Pune. His previous appointment was at New Delhi in Integrated HQs MoD (Navy) as Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff. The Admiral has been honoured with Ati Vishisht Sena Medal and Nao Sena Medal. The ceremonies included a 36 platoon Parade with the Presidents Colours paraded. In his farewell address to the men on parade, Vice admiral Sushil exhorted them to never let their guard down in defending the maritime interests of the country and always uphold the ethos of the Armed Forces. Vice admiral KN Sushil then received Vice Admiral Satish Soni after which the Flag Officer Commander in Chief designate reviewed the Parade. In a unique and symbolic ceremony after the Parade, Vice Admiral Sushil was “Pulled Out” in a whaler boat pulled by the senior most officers in the command led by Rear Admiral Sudarshan Shrikhande, Chief of Staff, of Southern Naval Command. The final farewell from the Naval Base for the Commander in Chief was done in traditional manner by all the senior officers pulling out the Admiral in a vehicle as personnel lined up on either side and bid adieu.
