Cross made by Dr. Wilbert Ronald of the Morden Research Station, Agriculture Canada in 1969. Northern Treasure was introduced by Agriculture Canada in 1997. __________________________________________________________________ Hardiness: Zone 3 (Canadian and USDA) __________________________________________________________________ Growth Rate: A medium to fast growing tree, growing at a similar rate as Patmore Green Ash. __________________________________________________________________ Description: This hybrid ash has attractive compound leaves that extend on average 33 cm (13 inches) in length and 29 cm (11 inches) in width. The fall colour is a solid yellow-orange colour. Northern Treasure is a vigorous grower that has an upright growth habit and tends to retain a strong central leader. The mature height is 11- 13 m (35-40 feet) with a spread of 6-10 m (20-30 feet). __________________________________________________________________ Culture: Performs best in moderate to full sunshine. It is suited to a range of soil types and growing conditions. Same requirements as Green Ash cultivars. __________________________________________________________________ Pest and Disease: No specific problems. High resistance to ash plant bug and ash flower gall mite. __________________________________________________________________ Landscape Value: Excellent shade tree in residential, downtown and commercial plantings. The outstanding foliage, upright growth habit and symmetrical branch habit makes this a premier choice for shade tree planting. __________________________________________________________________ Propagation: Budding on Green Ash. __________________________________________________________________ Sales Potential: Northern Treasure Ash has outstanding plant features such as attractive foliage, excellent fall colour, controlled growth habit and resistance to disease and insects.
