Disposition of Remains (general) – The estimated total cost for the transportation of remains back to the United States starts around USD $8,000. There is US standard embalming available and morgue fees are free. A pathologist from St. Lucia must travel to the island as there are none on Anguilla. If the remains are not cremated, the body is placed in a specially made sealed casket. Remains are flown out from St. Martin. There is a USD $150 transit permit required to move the remains from Anguilla to St. Martin. b. Specific facts relating to embalming, cremation, caskets, exportation, documentation requirements, preparation, shipment, and exhumation – U.S. standard embalming is available. Embalming costs start around USD $900. There are no cremation facilities on Anguilla; remains must be shipped to St. Croix or St. Martin for cremation. Cremation costs start around USD $6,500. c. As applicable, unique circumstances which may apply to post – There are no pathologists on Anguilla. d. Shipping of Remains – Remains are shipped from St. Martin. Estimated air freight costs start at USD $1,500. Cremated remains may be shipped through the post office. e. Local authorities responsible for licensing funeral directors and morticians – Government of Anguilla, Inland Revenue Department f. Local authorities responsible for making findings regarding the cause of death and for issuing local death certificates – Coroner duties are carried out by magistrate judges. The Registry Department issues local death certificates.
