
Dress Code Guidelines Upper School 2020-2021 General Appearance Guidelines Below are the general guidelines for appearance at Maranatha. Staff and administration reserve the right to make the determination if a student is within dress code standards. • No body piercings of any type, except girls with pierced ears. • No visible tattoos. • No coats or jackets are to be worn unless it is MCA Wear or a sport coat/blazer. • No hats, caps, or sunglasses while in school halls and classrooms. • No unnaturally colored hair or distracting hair accessories. • No tank tops, unless used as an undershirt. • No neon colored clothing items. • No ill fitting clothing, pants must be at appropriate waist level. • Neatness, cleanliness, and modesty should be observed at all times. • Tailed shirts must be tucked in. • Belts must be worn when belt loops on pants are exposed. Girl Specific • Skirts must be knee length or longer for bare legs. Skirts may be four finger widths above the knees if accompanied by opaque (dark colored) tights or leggings. • Blouses and tops must fit appropriately. Tight-fitting tops are not to be worn. • Ties are not allowed. Boy Specific • All ties must be of modest print and worn in the appropriate manner. • Hair must be neatly kept, hair accessories are not acceptable. • Neatly trimmed facial hair is allowed. • Nails are not to be painted. • Makeup of any kind is not acceptable. Accepted Colors Colors are to be of a single, solid and consistent color. Heathered, color blocked and items with contrasting colored trim are not allowed. No neon colors in any shade. Pants and Shorts Shoes and Sandals • Navy Blue • Any color and pattern • Black (must not be distracting or inappropriate) • Khaki Belts • Tan • Brown • Grey • Black Skirts • Navy Blue Ties and Socks • Black • Any color and pattern • Khaki (must not be distracting or inappropriate) • Tan Masks • Grey • Any color and pattern • Denim (must not be distracting or inappropriate) Dress Shirts, Polo Shirts, Undershirts, Sweatshirts, and Sweaters • Black • White • Shades of gray • Shades of blue • Shades of red • Shades of green • Shades of pink • Shades of yellow • Shades of purple • Shades of brown *Orange is not a shade of red or yellow and is considered out of dress code. Pants and Shorts • Traditional/classic style (cotton twill, chino, dress pants, etc.). • Capri pants are acceptable for girls only. • Flaps on outside pockets are acceptable as well as patch pockets. • Black and gray, solid colored, denim is allowed. • NO velvet, velour, or spandex fabrics. • NO leggings, jeggings, or yoga styled pants. • NO cargo or painters style. • NO sweatpant-like joggers or shorts. • NO frayed or torn hems or holes. • NO shorts shorter than 4” above the knee. • NO blue jeans. Skirts • Full, A-line, midi, straight, plain, or pleated. • Flaps on pockets are acceptable. • Minimal length: hits at the top of the knee. • May be worn no shorter than four fingers widths above the knee, only if worn with opaque/solid tights or leggings. • NO mini skirts. • NO cargo, zipper pockets, or drawstring waists. • NO lace, ruffles, etc. • NO velvet, velour, or spandex fabrics. • NO ill fitting items, must be modest. • NO skorts. Dress Shirts • Classic: short or long sleeved oxford or denim with hard collar. • Boys’ dress shirts must be tucked in at all times. • Girls’ modest fitting, contoured dress shirts may be untucked. • Logos 2” or under and singular are acceptable. • NO fabric with a pattern or design. • NO tight fitting shirts. • NO lace, ruffles, trim, or scalloped edges. • NO exposed stomach or back, even if bending or reaching. • NO undershirts with visible print, contrasting trim or unapproved colors. Polo Shirts • Solid colored, short or long sleeve, can be worn untucked. • Must be long enough to cover the belt. • Logos 2” or under and singular are acceptable. • Moisture wicking material is acceptable. • NO exposed midriff or back, even if bending or reaching. • NO tight-fitting polos. • NO lace, ruffles, trim or scalloped edges anywhere on polo. • NO contrasting trim on shirt. • NO pattern or design in the material. T-shirts • Traditional: worn for layering only. • Solid in color, only approved colors acceptable. • Long sleeve T-shirts may only be worn under long sleeved shirts. • Tank tops are acceptable as undershirts. • NO visible oversized logos, graphics, or lettering. • NO thermal or waffle fabric. • NO long sleeve T-shirts under short sleeved shirts, including polos. • NO lace, ruffles, trim or scalloped edges. • NO contrasting trim on shirt. • NO pattern or design in the material. Sweatshirts and Sweaters • Solid colored, crewneck, V-neck, hooded, zippered or buttoned cardigan and vest. • Logos 2” or under and singular are acceptable. • Solid colored T-shirt must be worn under full zip or button down items. • Unaltered Maranatha Wear sweatshirts and jackets are acceptable. • NO exposed midriff or back, even if bending or reaching. • NO thermal or waffle fabric. • NO pattern or design in the material, unless wearing approved Maranatha Wear. • NO wearing hoods during school day. Shoes and Sandals • Athletic shoes, boots, or sandals of any color(s) are acceptable. • Logos of any size are acceptable. • Ugg-styled boots are acceptable. • Items should be in appropriate condition for school environment. • NO athletic slides or flip-flop sandals. • NO slippers. • NO winter boots. • NO excessive heels or platforms. • NO shoe lace holes without laces in them. • NO holes, stains, or other excessive damage. .
