Some of these things are registration for Fall and Summer and Financial aid for next year. Here are some of the important dates that need to be written in your daily planner. Pay close attention to your advising windows as well as the fee due date. As you can see the due dates for F AFSA has already passed but don't let this stop you from attending classes. You must hurry to get your financial aid paperwork completed and returned to the Financial aid office in the Public Service Building to be eligible for aid in the coming year! SMALL MAMMEL RESEARCH ON LIMA CAMPUS Tom Knoedler, Lab Coordinator and Storeroom Manager Dept. of Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology for The Ohio State University at Lima, will be conducting an extensive research project for the Biology Department. Where did you recieve your education? I got my BS from Michigan State in 1989 and in 1993 I recieved my MS from BGSU. Both degrees are in Biology. I specialize in small mammel work. What do you consider a small mammel? The size of a squarel or smaller. I actually don't even work with the squarrel very often. I work mainly with mice, shrews, and similar small mammels. How did you get interested in this field? It goes back to my high school biology teacher. He showed me that you can appreciate nature and study it at the same time. He showed me that you could systematically study natural areas and that is what a biologist does. He would take us out to a field that we had seen every day, yet had not really looked at, and gave us the opportunity to really see what is out there. I try to get my students to look at the natural areas we have around us on this campus. What advise would you give to a student interested in Biology? Don't let your fear of a class postpone or stop you from taking that class. Don't let a class get in the way of what you want to do. Anyone interested in biology needs to get experience in research or any experience at all in the field they plan on entering. They need to have contact with the plants or animals they are interested in. The second most important thing they can do is to make contacts. That is how I got my job with the Defence Department. They had an antennae in the upper part of Michi­ gan that sent signals through the ground. They wanted me to determine the effect the signals would have on the wildlife in the area. What does your work on campus entail? My main focus is on population dynamics, where they live, how they survive, basically their rela­ tionship between them and their environment.
