CYS Flag Football Rule Addendums*

CYS Flag Football Rule Addendums* The middle school program follows normal NIRSA Flag & Touch Football rules except for items noted and/or highlighted below. CoRec rules are not to be applied. Play Time – Every player should play in a regular season game. Coaches represent CYS Catholic values and PLCT GROW principles in teaching and dealing with their players. Team Box – Coaches and bench players must be in their team box during active play. One offensive and defensive coach from each team can follow the line of scrimmage but must be off the field during active play. Both teams shall be on the same side of the field. Team box shall extend from center field to each teams’ 20-yard mark along sideline. Game Clock – Four 10-minute quarters running clock. Pro clock last two minutes of 2nd and 4th quarters. Two timeouts per team per half. During tournament over-time is a 5-minute quarter until there is s winner at the end of a quarter. One time out per quarter per time in overtime and team must go for 2 or 3 points after touchdown. Snap – Ball must be snapped within 25-seconds after ball is set and signaled by official. Mouth Guard – Players must wear a color (red, blue, black, etc.) mouthguard without a strap. Rush Line – Rushers must be at least 5 yards from line of scrimmage. Non-rushers can be inside of rush line. QB Run – Quarterback can run off a direct snap. Spinning - Runners can spin but must maintain one foot on ground during spin. Running into players – All players must avoid collisions with opponent, otherwise 10-yard penalty against player causing collision. Fumbles – Ball is dead where it hits the ground. No change in possession. Uniforms – Teammates must have same color shirt and shorts with no pockets. Mercy Rule – Game over if one team has 35-point lead at halftime or 19-point lead in last 2 minutes of game. *CYS coaches represent our Catholic values, and as sport-ministers they are responsible for following the PLCT GROW approach. They must teach players about teamwork, desire to win the right way, commitment, compassion and dedication. CYS coaches must adjust their game (such as move to zone defense inside the 3-pt line, reduce fast breaks, etc.) to avoid running up the score against their opponents. Coaches are permitted to restrict play time of a player based on discipline or team commitment issues or the nature of the game. A coach can be found in violation of the League’s Code of Conduct for failure to adjust their game or game format and can be subject to disciplinary action by the school and/or league. Coaches are expected to practice the Golden Rule in every game. Updated 2018-11-15 .
