With performances from students of all ages to include poetry, drama, music and dance, every student has the opportunity to share their work across the Arts. Tickets are free but must be booked in advance Available from: [email protected] / 01691 626545 Charity Concert - in aid of Pancreatic Cancer UK and The Peter Messenger Fund Friday 4th October, 7.00pm, Big School Prepare to be entertained by our fine musicians, featuring performances from the Chamber Choir, Chapel Choir, Lower School Choir, Musical Theatre Ensemble, Jazz Band, Flute Choir, Woodwind Ensemble, Choral Society and Prestfelde School Choir. This promises to be a fantastic evening of music making in aid of two excellent causes. Tickets: £10 Adults / U18s Free (but must book tickets) Available from: [email protected] / 01691 626545 Silent Movie Festival Thursday 10th & Friday 11th October, 7.00pm, Arts Centre Following live musical accompaniments to films featuring Laurel & Hardy, Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, we are proud to announce our first Silent Film Festival in October 2019. Bringing together live music and film creates one of the most exciting cinema experiences and provides the musicians with unique challenges. This year we will be presenting the original film of ‘Oliver Twist’ (1922) starring Lon Chaney and Jackie Coogan on Thursday 10th October with a new musical score from renowned composer Neil Brand. On Friday 11th October we will be screening a newly restored version of Harold Lloyd’s classic silent comedy ‘Speedy’ with live improvised piano accompaniment from Jonathan Best. The feature would be preceded by the Laurel and Hardy comic short ‘Angora Love’. This regular teatime treat is always varied and entertaining featuring solo and ensemble performances. A perfect way to spend an autumn afternoon and enjoy the talents of our younger musicians. Tickets are FREE but must be booked in advance: Available from: [email protected] / 01691 626545 Far from the Madding Crowd performed by Llanymynech Amateur Dramatic Society (LADS) Friday 22nd – Saturday 23rd November, Arts Centre Llanymynech Amateur Dramatic Society, known throughout the area as ‘The LADS’, has been in existence for over 20 years, bringing live theatre to the surrounding area and drawing an ever-increasing following. Since 1992 the LADS have tackled all manner of plays, from light comedies and period pieces, to innovative new plays and ambitious spectacles with a cast of 50. Their primary aim is to provide reasonably- priced live entertainment to the highest possible standard. The passion, melodrama, earthy humour and strong, gripping plot of Thomas Hardy’s classic novel ‘Far from the Madding Crowd’ are vividly conveyed in Matthew White’s fast-moving and admirably economical adaptation, directed by Alison Utting. When their new foster sister Dinah arrives she wants to find out why... but can she escape the Demon Headmaster? Join this talented group of Year 9 and 10 students as they perform this comedic and warm-hearted play. Tickets are FREE but must be booked in advance: Available from: [email protected] / 01691 626545 Lower School Christmas Tree Lighting Thursday 28th November, 4.30pm, Lower School The festivities begin with the lighting of the Lower School Christmas tree and seasonal carols sung by the Lower School Choir. Parents are welcome to attend Community Carol Service Thursday 28th November, 7.30pm, Chapel Members of the local community are invited to join us for this beautiful, traditional candlelit service led by our award winning Chapel Choir. The Chapel at Ellesmere College is transformed for this wonderful celebratory service with a selection of traditional carols sung by candlelight. The Chapel Choir will lead the service and afterwards refreshments will be served in Big School.
