Day 1: Lighthouse Day Trips – located in and around St. John’s, you can enjoy beautiful scenery and vist the most easternly point in North America. Fort Amherst Lighthouse - Perched on a cliff overlooking the North Atlantic, the bright red and white exterior of the Fort Amerhert Lighthouse is one of the first landmarks encountered by ships entering St. John’s Harbour. Steeped in naval history and rich in architectural significance, here you’ll find some of the the most stunning views of the surrounding land and sea. Cape Spear Lighthouse National historic site – 20 minutes from downtown and the most easterly point of North America. It is the oldest surviving lighthouse. Hike along the East Coast Trail and wander the ruins of WWII fortifications. Ferryland Lighthouse – 1 hour drive from St. John’s. Rugged ocean views and a delicious picnic lunch (reservations required) available during the summer months. Overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. Cape Race Lighthouse – 2.5 hours drive from St. John’s on the southern tip of the Avalon Peninsula is the Cape Race Lighthouse. You will find Myrick Wireless Interpretation Centre, a replica of the original Marconi Radio Station that was first to answer the Titanics distress call. Gift shop onsite. Cape spear Lighthouse Quidi Vidi City of St. John’s Day 2: Quidi Vidi – pronounced as Kitty Vitty or Quada Vida depending on who you ask. Quaint fishing village located in the east end of St. John’s and a 7 minute drive from the Holiday Inn St. John’s Conference Centre. Idyllic cottages dotting the roadside to the wharf lined with colorful fishing stages. Quidi Vidi offers a quinessential island outports of Newfoundland and Labrador.
