Maximize Relationship with Police Task: Research Further "Block Watch" Aspects of Existing Luncheons Project Outline - Safety

Strategy: Maximize relationship with police Task: Research further "block watch" aspects of existing luncheons Project Outline - Safety Initiative : Lower the incidence of crime in German Village Outline : This was the 3rd most important issue for the residents of German Village. People are up-in-arms about the break-ins and assaults. Goal : Zero crime in 10 years Recommendations : 1. Establish a Task Force to develop and implement an action plan to improve safety and reduce crime in German Village. 2. Survey Lighting and establish where the biggest dark holes are to be addressed. 3. Study other cities and neighborhoods across the country and develop best practices that could be implemented in German Village. 4. Establish a March with Merion Village and Schumacher Place much like Madrid highly successful campaign to combat terrorism – “We say no to crime” 5. Quantify the tax base to use as leverage with the City Police to get a dedicated patrol unit that could be shared with Schumacher & Merion Village. 6. Educate on what residents can do to reduce crime eg. Lighting, alarms, not leaving valuables in plain sight etc. 7. Include evening meetings with Police for residents who work during the day. 8. Work with Merion Village & Schmacher Place to develop area-wide initiatives such as a Cross- Neighborhood Watch. Resident Suggestions : • Other cities have used innovative ways to combat crime successfully. Replace concrete S/Ws with brick S/Ws; • I would like to see one dedicated police unit stationed here in the Village at all times. A consistent police presence might be the biggest deterrent to all of the crime we see coming here from across Parson's Avenue. • dedicated police patrols and increased code enforcement • More police presence at the park. • Huge increase in patrolling and safety improvements. Can we work with city to better ID the right street trees as a step toward sidewalk repairs? • Crime cannot increase and has to decrease. Need to get more police patrol. • Also, focus on reducing crime (and riffraff) in and around GV; intolerance for drug activity in surrounding areas; cops on horses and bikes, etc. • Keeping the heat on the city for infrastructure, policing ,etc. • Ohio has probably the weakest scrap metal theft laws in the nation targeting the gypsy scrappers rather than the scrap yards. .
