I recommend this book to young readers because it is interesting for young readers, although there can be strong words that some don't understand. She has formed a bond of friendship with her roommates, but she is struggling with the challenge every princess must face — finding and training a songbird. Fluffy and cute, prefect for middle elementary. A great story! I loved this book and wish I could read more! I have read a few books by this author and loved them both. But it just makes it even more fun finally reading the second, usually. A bit spooky, but not scary at all. A funny twist on summer camp. Apr 18, Kirsten rated it really liked it. Was one of my favorite childhood books. Never read the whole series but it inspired me to be graceful as a kid. I recommend this most especially to tweens :. A place full of new people, new experiences, and constant surprises. Her turret-mates are completely different from anyone she's ever known. Princess Gundersnap is frumpy and blunt, and Princess Kristen is a stylish tomboy, whose garments consist mostly of animals she's hunted. Not to mention the other Princesses, some of whom aren't very friendly. As if the other Princesses weren't enough to deal with, there are the activities; needlepoint, swimming in the moat, makeup with a very nasty duchess , falconry, lawn tennis, canoing, sailing, archery, jewel crafts, catching a songbird and teaching it to sing. Plus, all outdoor activities are weather dependent, and it can change from summer to winter in two minutes on any given day. Princess Camp is hard to keep up with! The appearance of a ghost comes as a bit of a surprise to Princess Alicia. At first she just thinks she's dreaming. It will take help from all of her turret-mates to solve the mystery, and put the ghost to rest. Not to mention getting her songbird to sing! It felt like it traveled in fits and spurts, but that might just have been the weather! At the end of the story the point of view switches seamlessly from Princess Alicia to Princess Gundersnap. Which tells me that our Princesses have much more adventure in store for them! Oct 18, PurplyCookie rated it really liked it Shelves: childrens-books , e-book , 1st-in-a-series , book-series. Nothing rankles me more than a story with a theme, but then it has no details to support it. Like it could be set anywhere, anytime. I think it is the thought that an author puts in that makes all the difference. They hunt and train songbirds. They interact with ghosts and witches. Even the camp is located in a magical place, where seasons can last hours or days. It is obvious the author took lots of time and care crafting this story. I would recommend this book to middle grade girls, especially those who like fantasy. Review: This fantasy novel will enchant those who dream of being able to wear tiaras all day and engage in activities such as embroidery and teaching songbirds to sing. The result was cognitive dissonance: a highly uncomfortable state from which human beings will do almost anything to escape. There were two principal means. One — the more painful — was to question everything you held to be true. This process took me years: in fact, it has not ended. It was, at first, highly disruptive to my peace of mind and sense of self. The other, as US Republicans did during the Bush presidency, is to create your own reality. If the world does not fit your worldview, you either shore up your worldview with selectivity and denial, or if you have power you try to bend the world to fit the shape it takes in your mind. Much of the effort of conservative columnists and editors, and of certain politicians and historians, appears to be devoted to these tasks. Last year the former Republican staffer Mike Lofgren wrote something very similar about the dominant classes of the US: "the rich elites of this country have far more in common with their counterparts in London, Paris, and Tokyo than with their fellow American citizens … the rich disconnect themselves from the civic life of the nation and from any concern about its well being except as a place to extract loot. Secession from the concerns and norms of the rest of society characterises any well established elite. Our own ruling caste, schooled separately, brought up to believe in justifying fairytales, lives in a world of its own, from which it can project power without understanding or even noticing the consequences. A removal from the life of the rest of the nation is no barrier to the desire to dominate it. In fact, it appears to be associated with a powerful sense of entitlement. So if you have wondered how the current government can blithely engage in the wholesale transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich, how its frontbench can rock with laughter as it truncates the livelihoods of the poorest people of this country, why it commits troops to ever more pointless post-colonial wars, here, I think, is part of the answer. Many of those who govern us do not in their hearts belong here. They are not contradictory but complementary. This distinction is perhaps best seen in their different genealogies of Jesus. Matthew begins his book with Jesus' family tree Matthew because a person's heritage was of primary importance to Jews. It is clear that Mattew's list of Jesus' forefathers is, in fact, His stepfather Joseph's line of descent, meaning that Matthew is most interested in establishing Jesus' legal status as "the Son of David, the Son of Abraham" verse 1. In other words, He has a valid, legal claim to the throne of Israel; He meets the qualifications. Luke has a very different list Luke It is evidently Mary's genealogy, and thus Jesus' natural genealogy. Jesus, then, has both a natural and a supernatural right to be mankind's Savior and Sovereign. The story of Jesus' birth we all know well. At some point soon thereafter, she conceives through a miracle from God. When she is found to be pregnant, her betrothed husband Joseph decides to divorce her quietly, but an angel informs him in a dream that what had happened was from God Matthew The Child is to be named Jesus, and He would "save His people from their sins" verse About the time that the Baby is due, Joseph and Mary travel down to Bethlehem to comply with a Roman census, and there Jesus was born, most likely in the early autumn Luke ; Matthew To shepherds in the fields, an angel in great glory announces "good tidings of great joy which will be to all people," and the shepherds, after seeing Him for themselves Luke , spread the good news far and wide verses In accordance with the law, Jesus is circumcised on the eighth day verse 21 and after forty days presented at the Temple along with an offering verses At that time, Simeon and Anna witness to His being the promised Redeemer verses Sometime after Jesus' birth, an unknown number of wise men from the East come and worship Him, presenting Him with rich gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh Matthew The 4 Georges: Born 2 Rule | Horrible Histories Wiki | Fandom The Monarchs' Song.
