Canada Korea Interparliamentary Friendship Group News Release For immediate release June 8, 2016 5th ANNUAL CANADA-KOREA DIALOGUE SERIES ON THE HILL OTTAWA, ON – On June 7th, 2016 the Canada Korea Interparliamentary Friendship Group (CKIFG) and the Canada Korea Society (CKS), in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, held the 5th Annual Canada-Korea Dialogue Series on Parliament Hill. In attendance were over 100 guests including Parliamentarians, dignitaries, Korean War Veterans, regional community leaders and stakeholders. This year’s panelists focused on the theme “Bilateral Collaboration in Science, Technology, and Innovation & Strategic Partnership in a Changing Global Environment”. The evening opened with special opening remarks from The Honourable Stéphane Dion, Minister of Foreign Affairs, moderated by the Honourable Yonah Martin and MP Chandra Arya, Co-Chairs of CKIFG and Mrs. Young Hae Lee, President of CKS. The panel presentation included three guest speakers: His Excellency Daeshik Jo, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea: “A Forward-looking Partnership between Korea-Canada” Dr. Arthur Carty, Executive Director, Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology, University of Waterloo: “Nanotechnology and S&T: Outlook for Canada-Korea Collaboration” Dr. Brian Lee Crowley, Managing Director, Macdonald-Laurier Institute: “Canada and Korea: Strategic Partners in a Troubling World” The evening concluded with a delicious Korean meal and a lively networking session. “Canada is an Asia-Pacific country and we are fully committed to engage this crucial region of the world.” – Minister Stéphane Dion, Minister of Foreign Affairs “The historic Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement, which was implemented in 2015, strengthened the firm foundation upon which the bilateral relationship is based. Furthermore, the strategic partnership in science, technology and innovation will deepen the relationship and help Canadians and Koreans find success in the growing global environment.” – Hon.
