During her devilling period, she gained experience of public, commercial and regulatory law. Prior to calling to the Bar, Megan worked for three years as Law Clerk to the Lord President, Lord Carloway. During that time, she assisted Lord Carloway with all aspects of his work as an appellate judge. She acquired experience of both the procedures and workings of the Inner House and Criminal Appeal Court. She assisted Lord Carloway with cases across a very broad spectrum of areas, including many commercial contract, commercial property and public law appeals, as well as cases concerning professional liability and planning law. Megan previously trained and practised as a solicitor in the public authority team at Simpson & Marwick in Edinburgh. Dealing primarily with public body and insurer clients, she instructed counsel in the Court of Session, including in judicial review and appellate level proceedings. As a solicitor, Megan appeared regularly in the Sheriff Court, up to and including proof. Megan has a keen interest in legal education and has edited two student textbooks on the Scottish legal system. She has tutored on a variety of courses at the University of Edinburgh, including in her areas of particular interest, Contract and International Private Law.
