Students have benefited from performing to genuine audiences and having to explain their learning. Thank you to all who have attended our Community Afternoons, thus far this year. The next Community Afternoon will be on Friday 23rd August. TEACHING and LEARNING Our Humanities topic, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples has been an excellent topic during which students have learned much about Australia’s First Nations’ Peoples. A recent highlight of the topic has been the visit by Koori Education Support Officers, Rex and Terrie, during which students were engaged in learning Aboriginal art and story-telling symbols. Everyone created a story and stone paintings using the symbols. SUNDAY All students were able to clearly articulate their learning, often with examples, and future learning goals. CLUSTER DAY WEDNESDAY The theme for the Cluster Day at Jindivick PS yesterday was drumming. It included Beat $15 PARMA NIGHT Boxing/Chair Drums (representing bass drum, snare drum and cymbals), playing guitars and untuned percussion instruments, making mini drums and rain sticks, as well as a pro- ————— fessional drumming lesson facilitated by Roger Terrill. Blake demonstrated great resilience yesterday when his fingers were accidently jammed in the bus door! Principal’s Ponderings continued……. THE END of my TIME at NOOJEE PRIMARY SCHOOL Unfortunately, this will be my last newsletter at Noojee Primary School where I have been challenged, enlightened and continued my learning journey, as a teacher as well as being Principal of a small rural school, which has been a new experience for me. The semester seems to have flown by all too soon!! It has been an eventful time with the March bushfires impacting on the operation of the school, juggling teaching and principal work, attending Principal Forums, being on crutches for a short time, embarking on the Professional Learning Community (PLC) project, meeting with the Tarago Educational Community, working closely with the Tarago Cluster of schools (NDR, Jindivick, Labertouche and Noojee), associating with extremely helpful Regional Personnel, undergoing a stringent Occupational Health and Safety audit and embracing the Noojee Community. I have made some strong and hopefully lasting friendships, especially with teachers and Principals from the Tarago and Neerim schools. Rex Perry and I knew nothing about each other until the first day of school this year but we have become a united and formidable team in the quest to engage Noojee students in learning and positive behaviours. Thank you, Mr Perry, for your professionalism, offering support and alternative perspectives when required. I would never have survived without a competent Business Manager like Amanda McLaughlin and dedicated Aides: Christiane Bromilow, Julie Tawse and Bridgette Kurnell. Your assistance, input into the school and student learning has been very much ap- preciated. It has been great working with the Noojee School Council, chaired by President Mark Peters, especially when we had a quorum! Above all, I consider myself lucky to have had the opportunity to teach the students at Noojee PS. I will miss Blake, Jade, Connor, Travis and Ruby, as each of them has enriched my life in their own unique way. I wish them all the best in the future and hope that they will all continue on a positive learning and behavioural path. I hope that they will always remember to use their “Thinking Hats”, strive for their personal bests in all aspects of their lives and follow their dreams. Taking responsibility for remembering library books each week helps students to become independent, not to mention the benefit of reading so many books. Thank you to the parents and carers that help their chil- dren to be organised, you are setting your children up with great life skills. Junior Students have been learning about the animals on our Australian Coins, we have enjoyed literature and craft activities about these animals. Do you know the name for a baby echidna? Ask your child. Clue: It’s starts with P. Senior Students have started exploring the Dewey Decimal system, they have been doing activities related to books found in each section, a favourite was trying to break a Guinness World Record. How many Lego bricks can you stack with one hand in 30 sec- onds? How tall can you build a card tower? Student’s patience and persistence were tested, they did an awesome job.
