SUNDAY MASS Saturday 5:00 PM Sunday 7:30, 9:00 & 11:00 AM DAILY MASS Monday - Friday 8:00 AM SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION Saturday 9:00 AM ROSARY Monday - Friday 7:30 AM SEPTEMBER 29, 2019 - 26TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Death of Archbishop Harry J. Flynn (1933-2019) Archbishop Flynn, who served as Archbishop of St. Paul and Minneapolis for 13 years, died on Sunday, September 22, 2019, at his residence in St. Paul. Harry Joseph Flynn was born in Schenectady, New York, in 1933. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Albany in 1960, was consecrated the coadjutor bishop for the Diocese of Lafayette in Louisiana in 1986, and served as bishop of that diocese from 1989 until 1994. He was appointed coadjutor Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis in 1994, and upon the retirement of Archbishop Roach, became the diocese’s seventh Archbishop on September 8, 1995. Archbishop Flynn retired as Archbishop of the Archdiocese on his 75th birthday, May 2, 2008, as required by canon law. Archbishop Flynn was well known for his pastoral kindness to individual persons. With an encyclopedic memory for individuals’ names and needs, he reached out constantly to people of all ages, religions, and stations in life. He directed that personal enthusiasm and warmth to the recruitment of candidates for the priesthood, and for most of his tenure, the Archdiocese ordained more priests than it lost each year through death and retirement. Archbishop Flynn was deeply devoted to the spiritual formation of clergy, of religious, and of lay people. He often served as a retreat master for dioceses and religious communities, and frequently assisted parish priests in hearing confessions. In his retirement, Archbishop Flynn continued to serve the Archdiocese by celebrating some of the numerous confirmation Masses held at the Cathedral of Saint Paul and the Basilica of St. Mary. He also continued to celebrate Mass, give retreats and talks, and attend other events when requested. I ask you to join me in praying that the Lord would welcome him to heaven with the beautiful words: “Well done, good and faithful servant, enter your master’s joy.” Sunday, September 29: Saint Mary’s Chapel, Monday, September 30: Cathedral of St. Paul Saint Paul Seminary, Saint Paul, MN 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Public Visitation 6:30 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. (Monday) Public Visitation/Vigil 11:00 a.m. - Mass of Christian Burial 4690 Bald Eagle Avenue St. Mary of the Lake Mission Statement White Bear Lake, MN 55110 We are a JOYFUL and WELCOMING Catholic community 651-429-7771 centered in the Eucharist--forming disciples who KNOW, [email protected] FOLLOW and go forth to SHARE Jesus Christ.
