Alastair Cook Lords Long Room Lunch

Alastair Cook Lords Long Room Lunch

Lords Long Room Lunch Thursday 30th June 2016 After the stunning successes of our previous events at Lords, we are delighted to be again running our Long Room Lunch, in the hallowed environs of the spiritual ‘home of cricket’. This year’s event will see our exceptional panel focussing on another summer of quality cricket as England host the touring Sri Lankan and Pakistan sides. With special guests including run machine and England captain Alastair Cook, legendary England batsman and current Sky Sports Cricket lead presenter, David Gower, and Aussie pacemen and thorn in England’s side, Peter Siddle, the banter is bound to be spicy! Our host for the day is SKY Sports’ David Fulton, and with a delicious lunch and complimentary bar this is an event not to be missed. The Long Room at Lords Renowned as “the most evocative four walls in the world of cricket”, the Long Room in the Lords Pavilion has been at the epicentre of the game for time immemorial. Artwork from across the centuries adorns every wall, with the haughty gazes of the likes of WG Grace and Sir Jack Hobbs mingling with more modern icons of the game, such as Sir Ian Botham and Shane Warne. The service and catering in the Long Room are of the very highest calibre, as befits such a magnificent venue; you and your guests are sure to be enchanted by the whole experience. Alastair Cook Run machine and long-standing England captain Alastair has been setting the standards since his first Test against India back in 2006, where he became only the 5th England player to score a 50 and a century on debut. He has been accumulating records ever since; to name a few, Alastair is England’s highest ever Test run-scorer with 10000, with the highest number of centuries (28), he is the only England player ever to play in 50 Test victories, and is the youngest player to reach 8000 Test runs, beating the great Sachin Tendulkar by 21 days. In a career full of highlights, perhaps his finest series was in the 2010/11 Ashes Down Under, where his stunning haul of 766 runs at an average of 127, saw England claim a famous 3-1 victory. Still only 31, Alastair looks set to continue breaking records for years to come, whilst overseeing the development of a fine England team. David Gower OBE One of England’s all-time greats, left handed batsman David Gower was class personified at the crease; his laconic style and superb timing were a joy to watch throughout his long England career. He played in an incredible 117 Tests, a record bettered by only Graham Gooch and Alec Stewart, averaging over 44, with 18 Test hundreds and 39 fifties to his name. He still occupies 4th place in the all-time list of English Test run-scorers with 8231; his highest score of 215 against Australia in 1985 was one of a series of stunning knocks during the 3-1 Ashes triumph. He also played in 114 ODIs, averaging over 30, and in all scored almost 50,000 runs in his professional career. David is now the main presenter of international cricket coverage on SKY Sports. Peter Siddle Aussie paceman Peter Siddle has often saved his very best form for the Ashes. His bustling run-up and abrasive style on the pitch have ruffled more than a few English feathers over the years, yet off the pitch he is charm personified. With over 200 wickets in 60 Tests to his name, ‘Sids’ has been one of Australia’s most reliable performers with the ball, with an average hovering around 30. He famously took an Ashes hat- trick on the opening day of the Gabba Test in the 2010/11 series. It was a surprise to many that he was not a first choice in the 2015 series in England, when he finally played in the 5th Test he ended with match figures of 6-67! David Fulton A right-handed batsman, David enjoyed a 15 year first class career with Kent, playing in 200 First Class matches with an average in the high 30s, and over 100 limited overs games. His best professional season came in 2001, when he scored an incredible 1892 First Class runs at an average of just under 76, a season which saw him named Player of the Year by the Professional Cricketers’ Association. Since retiring from the game in 2006, David has forged a career as a cricket journalist, writing for the The Times, and appearing regularly on Sky Sports’ cricket coverage. In 1993 he took the catch to dismiss Viv Richards in his final First Class innings! Amelia Whiteman After captivating guests at our event at the Long Room last year, we are thrilled to welcome Amelia back to entertain us once again. A classical crossover performer with a unique style and flair, you will be amazed by the uplifting talents of Amelia Whiteman.
