Recommended Equipment • A computer with a blank hard disk drive • Windows 10 installation DVD, ISO, or USB flash drive Step 1: Starting the Installation Media a. Insert the Windows 10 installation DVD into the DVD-ROM drive or plug the USB flash drive into a USB port. b. When the computer starts up, watch for the message Press any key to boot from CD or DVD. If the message appears, press any key on the keyboard to boot the computer from the DVD. If the press any key message does not appear, the computer automatically starts loading files from the DVD. c. Note: You can find the product key on the case or sleeve in which the Windows 10 DVD was packaged, or you can get it from your instructor. b. The License terms window opens. The Where do you want to install Windows? window opens. Select the hard drive or partition on which Windows 10 will be installed. In this example, click to select Disk 0 Unallocated Space. Page 4 of 9 4 of 166 Lab – Install Windows 10 Step 4: Installing Windows a. The Installing Windows window opens. Windows 8 will take some time to copy the files and install the OS on your computer. During the setup, the computer will restart several times. b. If you get the message Press any key to boot from CD or DVD…, do not press any key and Windows will boot from the hard disk to continue the installation. Step 5: Account Setup a. After the devices setup is complete and Windows is ready for more customization, the Get going fast screen displays. At this screen, you can click Customize to configure the settings, such as Windows Update, according to your preference. In this lab, click Use express settings to continue. b. In this step, you will set up a local account to access the computer. In the lab, you will setup a standalone computer just like you would do for your personal computer. Page 6 of 9 6 of 166 Lab – Install Windows 10 c. You will not be creating a Microsoft account for this exercise. If you already have an account or choose to make one, you may do so. If you choose to create an account, you may click Create one! and enter the required information. If you already have a Microsoft account and choose to use it, you may enter the required information and click Sign in. In this lab, when the Make it yours screen displays, click Skip this step to continue. d. On the Create an account for this PC screen, enter a user name, a password and a password hint provided by your instructor. Select Not now to continue. Step 6: Finishing the Installation a. Page 9 of 9 9 of 166 5.2.1.10 Lab - Check for Updates in Windows 10 Introduction In this lab, you will configure the operating system so you can select how updates are installed and then change the settings so updates are downloaded and installed automatically. Recommended Equipment The following equipment is required for this exercise: • A computer with a new installation of Windows 10 Step 1: Check for updates on your computer. a. Boot the computer and log in. Navigate to the window by clicking Start > Settings > Update & security. Click on Change active hours. © 2016 Cisco and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. When updates are installed and a restart is required, the Restart options allows you to specify when exactly when the restart will occur. Click backup twice to go back to the Update status screen. e. Check Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows. and Use my sign in info to automatically finish setting up my device after an update. In the Update status window, click the link Check for updates. b. Available updates will automatically be downloaded and installed. If you see this message, it is necessary to reboot the computer in order to apply some operating system updates. If you see this button, click Restart now. d. Close all open windows.
