We also have Email and a web site (www.bakerbay.com). A RAINBOW OF COLORS Now some notes about the catalog and colors. We try to keep the names of the colors simple and in a so-called system. Think rainbows. Most color numbers have a 3 digit number. The first digit or hundreds place is style of color (opaque, silverlined, iris, etc.) The middle number or tens place is the actual color (red, green, blue, etc.) And the last number, the ones place, is the shade of that color. Now this is where gazing at rainbows comes in handy, or experience with a color wheel. Red through yellow the lower numbers (1-3) are darker, 4-6 are medium, and 7-9 are lighter. After yellow (which means green - brown) the lower numbers (1-3) are lighter, 4-6 are still medium and 7-9 are darker. If all else fails maybe the color name will help. Hundreds Place Tens Place Ones Place 000 Opaque (solid, can’t see through 000 Black-White 001 Black, 003 Gray, 005 White 100 Transparent (can see light through) 200 Silverlined (transparent with silver lining) In the ones place Red through Yellow 300 Iris (looks like a drop of oil on water) 010 Red 020 Orange 001 is darker 400 Metallic (glass with metal coating) 009 is the lightest 500 Colorlined (color on inside) 030 Yellow 600 Luster (shiny in both opaque and transparent) Green through Brown 700 Satin or Opal (translucent look) 040 Green 800 Pearl (pearl like finish) 001 is lighter 900 Matte (dull, etched look) 050 Turquoise 009 is the darkest 060 Blue 070 Pink Also, hopefully, the name of the color 080 Purple will help 090 Brown A test: 005 = Opaque White, 605 = White Luster, 117 = Red Transparent, 217 = Silverlined Red (Sorry, now you are really confused, huh!) While we are on the subject of confusion, what’s a mm? (not the little candies that melt in your mouth not in your hands) Since most of the beads are made outside the United States the measurements are metric. A millimeter (mm) is the little bug legs on the metric side of the ruler. There are 25 mm per 1 inch which makes a 6mm bead about 1/4”. See the ruler which may not be exact because the printer can change it a little bit, but should help give you an idea of size. The sizes in seed beads are even worse. The larger the number the smaller the bead. It can be compared to the stitch gauge on a sewing machine. At 8 stitches per inch, each stitch is twice as long as the 16 stitches per inch. The 8/0 seed bead is larger than the 13/0. The smaller the seed bead the more detail you can get into small pieces. The most popular sizes are 11/0 and 10/0, with the Japanese 15/0 closing the gap for the very adventurous. Another size problem we have had is with Pony beads versus Crow beads. Since the plastic beads that are about 9mm are called by some companies pony beads some customers have been ordering pony and expecting to get crow size beads. Pony beads are large size seed beads, about 3 to 4mm, but are really 6/0 seed beads. Crow beads are bigger and used for chokers, breastplates, etc. Please check the size description of the beads you want to be sure they are right for your project. When ordering please list the NUMBER, COLOR AND DESCRIPTION of the beads you want. This will speed your order because it saves us the time for guess work. ii TABLE OF CONTENTS Bone and Horn . 1-3 Brass, Nickel and Metal. 4 Cones. 4 Clasps & Findings. 5-9 Bugles. .10-12 Cut Beads. 13-17 Delica Beads. 18-20 Seed Beads. 21-29 Pony and Tile Beads. 29-30 Crow Beads. .30-32 White Hearts. .32 Trade Bead Copies. 32 Trade Beads. 32 Round Beads. 33-34 Hot Dogs. .34-35 Hearts and Teardrops . 35-36 Faceted Beads. .37-38 Austrian Crystals (Swarovski) . 39 Rhinestone Banding. 39 Needles, Thread, Sinew, Cord & Wire. 40-42 Tools and Beading Equipment. 43-45 Quills and Pine Nuts. .45 Kits. 45-46 Leather . 46 Books . 47-51 Silver and Gold. .52 Pewter Charms. 53-54 Shell . 55-56 Stone. 57-58 Ordering Information. 59 Order Blank. 60 Map and Store Hours .
