Although this is true, his family is from the island of Puerto Rico. His parents are Israel and Daisy Hernández. He is the youngest of three: his sisters are Judyvette and Meredith Hernández. Deacon Izzie studied at the University of South Florida, where he got his degree in Business Marketing. He also has his Philosophy degree from St. John Vianney College Seminary. His home parish is Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Land O’Lakes, Florida, where he spent many of his college years as a Core Team Member, ministering to both the middle and high school youth groups. Deacon Izzie worked for his uncle, Richard Pagan, who owns his own carpet cleaning business. He was employed with him all through college and spent six years working for him. Some of Deacon Izzie’s hobbies/interests are; drawing, playing sports (particularly basketball and soccer), superheroes, praise and worship style adoration, and family time. Family is so very important to Deacon Izzie, that his Chalice was handpicked by his parents and two sisters, and given as a gift from family in Puerto Rico, Chicago, New York, Alabama, and Florida. As for his call to the priesthood, Deacon Izzie said it was during his time of ministering to the youth and his own experience as a teen, that he was drawn to serve the Church, the people of God. He often quotes this, “It was during adoration at Camp Covecrest, that I heard the Lord say, ‘Just give it a year’.” As a seminarian for the Diocese of St. Petersburg, Izzie has served in the following parishes: St. Michael (Hudson), Incarnation (Tampa), and Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle (St. Petersburg). Reverend Izzie Hernández’s first priestly assignment is as Parochial Vicar at St. Stephen’s in Riverview. 5 e welcome your participation. Then Fr. Chuck Dornquast (Vocations Director) and Fr. Gregg Caggianelli (Vice Rector of St. Vincent de Paul Seminary) present the candidate to the Bishop and testifies to his worthiness for ordination. Election by the Bishop & Consent by the People Elección por parte del Obispo y Consentimiento del Pueblo The Bishop, on behalf of the entire Church, accepts the Elect and calls him to ordination as a priest. The community responds with applause and repeats the Festival Alleluia. Homily Most Reverend Gregory L. Parkes Homilía Examination of the Candidate Examen del Candidato In a series of five questions, the Bishop asks the Elect to express his desire and willingness to be ordained a priest and to fulfill the responsibilities that come with ordination. Promise of Obedience Promesa de Obediencia Kneeling before the Bishop, the Elect places his joined hands between those of the Bishop and promises him respect and obedience. 11 Litany of the Saints All stand / De pie Letanía de los Santos A deacon will invite all in the assembly to stand while the Elect prostrates him- self during the Litany. The assembly remains standing for the Litany. All holy men and women, Saints of God, R. pray for us. By the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, R. Lord, deliver us, we pray. 12 Imposition of Hands All sit / Sentados Imposición de las Manos Following the ancient custom found in Scripture, the Bishop places his hands upon the head of the Elect, praying in solemn silence for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Then all the concelebrating priests who are present lay hands upon the Elect. During this ritual gesture, Veni Sancte Spiritus, will be sung by the Schola Prayer of Ordination All stand / De pie Oración Consecratoria The Bishop extends his hands over the Elect who is kneeling before him and prays that he may be worthy of the ministry which he will embark. Investiture with Stole and Chasuble All sit / Sentados Imposición de la Estola y la Casulla Assisted by a presbyter, the newly ordained Priest is vested with a stole and chasuble, the vestments worn during the celebration of the Eucharist. Anointing of the Hands Unción de las Manos The Bishop anoints the hands of the new Priest with sacred Chrism that had been consecrated at the Chrism Mass during Holy Week 2021. Presentation of the Gifts Presentación de las Ofrendas The Bishop receives the gifts of bread and wine from the people. The paten and chalice that have been prepared for the celebration of Mass are then presented to the newly Ordained by the Bishop. eceive the oblation of the holy people, to be offered to R God. From the Ordination of a Priest 13 Kiss of Peace Beso de la Paz The Bishop exchanges the kiss of peace with the newly Ordained. Then all the priests who are present exchange the fraternal kiss with the newly Ordained as a gesture of welcoming him into priestly ministry. During the ritual gesture of the kiss of peace, the assembly is invited to join in singing the following songs. 1. O God, You Search Me Bernadette Farrell 14 2. Take, O Take Me As I Am John L Bell, Iona Community Following the Kiss of Peace, the newly ordained, Father Israel Hernández, will take his place amongst the presbyterate and concelebrate the Mass with Bishop Parkes and his brother priests.
