coupling > 2011 dabke > 2012 surveillance > 2013 GOODBYE 2011! Thanks to YOU weʼve had a remarkable year making new and innovative work and meeting new audiences in unexpected corners of the world. FEW HIGHLIGHTS: - In May the company showcased a preview of the work-in-progress “Coupling”, consisting of 11 duets, at the New York City Center. - In July, Zvi Gotheiner took his company home, as ZviDance performed “ZOOM” at the Suzanne Dellal Center for Dance and Theater in Tel Aviv, Israel, having a spirited reception from both audience and press. The tour continued to the 18th Annual International Contemporary Dance Conference and Performance Festival in Bytom, Poland. - In the summer, Mr. Gotheiner taught master classes during the International ImpulsTanz in Vienna, as well as in Holland, Sweden and Hungary. - In November, the company was invited for a three-week residency at the Kaatsbaan International Dance Center in upstate New York. This NYSCA-funded residency allowed the company to develop ideas for “Dabke”, which will be premiered in 2012. Dabke in Arabic literally means "stamping of ( د$""""""""""#"! ) ”Dabke“ the feet." Dabke is an Arabic line dance performed on festive occasions in countries such as Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Palestine; Israelis have their own version. Zvi Gotheiner initiated a research to learn the form, re-imagine the traditional step sequence of different Dabke variations, deconstruct the structure and infuse it with his own movement vocabulary. dabke The recent "Arab Spring" that ignited the Middle East with > unstoppable forces for change inspired Mr. Gotheiner to contribute to the momentum, and while working within his medium, acknowledge its global ripple effect on all of us. The company will premier the work May 31 - June 3, 2012, at the New York Live Arts Theater. The truth of the surveillance cam, however, is that like hotel porn, you almost never see anything. Itʼs a never-ending, worldwide, 24x7 tease. “Surveillance” will explore and reflect on the panoptic technology in relation to the body and how the impact of surveillance affects the physical, social and political body. This multimedia work will premier in New York in spring 2013 before touring internationally. In "Surveillance," multiple video camera streams will enact the role of performers. The audience will be invited to use various video cams, adding their personal viewpoints, implicating themselves in the narrative, taking responsibility publicly. surveillance Several robotic cameras placed in different locations > throughout the theater will create an environmental installation. We are pleased to announce a new collaboration with Hertog/Nadler, an acclaimed design team from Amsterdam, who will create original visual content for the project.
