Weekend best bets: Dam Short Film Festival, Slaughter and Vegas Pet Expo lasvegassun.com/vegasdeluxe/2015/feb/05/dam-short-film-festival-slaughter-pet-expo-vegas/ February 5, 2015 By Andrea Domanick Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015 | 6 p.m. Spring’s arriving early in Las Vegas — or at least for the weekend — with plenty of sunshine in the days ahead to enjoy what Las Vegas has to offer. Here’s a look at our weekend best bets: Tonight - Saturday: Dam Short Film Festival at Boulder Theater Boulder City’s annual short film festival returns this year with a program that includes a local film showcase on Friday and a total of 114 films spread across 21 programming blocks. Film times vary. Screenings are $9 each. The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $24. Friday - Saturday: Las Vegas Contemporary Dance Theater at West Las Vegas Library Theater The diverse performers and team behind LVCD, including director Bernard Gaddis, former principal with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, celebrate Black History Month with a performance embracing the African American diaspora. The free shows take place at 7 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday. Saturday: Slaughter at Eastside Cannery Before The Killers, before Imagine Dragons, there was Slaughter. Last month, the hair-metal quartet celebrated the 25th anniversary of “Stick It to Ya,” the first multiplatinum-selling album by a Las Vegas band. Now they’re returning home for a celebratory gig with original members Mark Slaughter and Dana Strum to play hits like “Up All Night” and “Fly To the Angels.” Great White opens. The show starts at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $16 to $30. Tonight: The Harlem Globetrotters at Orleans Arena The iconic Harlem Globetrotters bring their famous family show to Orleans Arena featuring incredible ball-handling wizardry, amazing rim-rattling dunks and trick shots, side-splitting comedy and unequaled on-court fan interaction. 1/2 Saturday - Sunday: Vegas Pet Expo at Cashman Center Pet lovers unite this weekend for the 5th annual Vegas Pet Expo featuring the latest in pet products, a mega-adoption, obedience classes, discounted vaccinations, live entertainment and much more. The free event also includes meet-and-greets with Wayde King, Brett Raymer and Irwin Raymer of Las Vegas’ own “Tanked” and Shorty Rossi and Hercules from “Pit Boss.” The expo is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Pets are most definitely allowed. Follow Andrea Domanick on Twitter at @AndreaDomanick and fan her on Facebook at Facebook.com/AndreaDomanick. 2/2.
