The City of Oakwood encompasses 2.97 square miles and has a population of approximately 9,000 people. Oakwood is a suburban community with 97.9% of the city being residential. Our residents, mostly involved in business and professional careers, enjoy the quiet and safe tree-lined neighborhoods dotted with unique older homes. Every year approximately 10 members of the senior class The U.S. Department of Education named OHS a National School receive recognition in the National Merit Scholarship of Excellence in 1991 and a No Child Left Behind—Blue Ribbon Program. School in 2007. OHS is a permanent member of The College Board, the National Association for College Admission Counselors and Faculty: The faculty consists of 56 teachers, 84.9% hold the Ohio Association of College Admission Counselors. OHS is advanced degrees. accredited by the Ohio Department of Education. Advanced Placement: Students taking AP courses earn a .05 “add-on” factor to their GPA for each AP course completed with a grade of C or higher and completion of the AP Exam. Advanced Placement Examination: In May of 2016, 274 students took 497 exams in 23 academic areas. 77% of the AP students received a score of 3 or better on the 2016 AP exams. Honors/High Honors: High Honors (AP Prep) English course offered in the tenth grade with Honors courses offered in mathematics and English at all grade levels. Honors II and III courses are available in French and Spanish. Grades earned in these courses do not receive extra weighting for GPA. Career Education Programs: Through a contractual arrangement with two neighboring school districts, Oakwood High School provides students with a choice of 22 career programs. Engineering is offered at Oakwood High School. All are technical preparation programs which award college credit. College Credit Plus: PSEO and Dual Enrollment have been combined and are now known collectively as College Credit Plus. As with PSEO and Dual Enrollment, students taking College Credit Plus courses will earn both high school and college credit.
