The software runs on Palm compatible handheld devices (Version 2.0 or higher operating system). In addition to automatically calculating correction factors, the Balancing Tool software is capable of commanding the VMA to desired flow setpoints, overriding some of the outputs for up to 30 minutes after the tool is disconnected, and correcting other configuration properties stored in the VMA. IMPORTANT: If Configuration Properties (CPs) are changed using VBT software, they are saved only in the controller. M-Pro software (used to create VMA1200 controller applications) does not support a method to upload changes made using VBT software. If a controller is replaced and the application is re-downloaded from M-Pro software, changes to the CPs are lost. This document describes how to: • install VBT software on a Palm compatible handheld device • connect using CablePRO • connect using CVTPRO • start the VBT • step through a balancing application 4 VMA1200 Key Concepts Product Overview The VMA Balancing Tool software provides a semi-automated method to balance VAV boxes controlled by VMA1200 Series controllers. The software runs on a Palm compatible handheld device, such as the Palm handheld unit or IBM Workpad. These devices allow data entry by touching the screen with a finger or stylus, or by writing numbers and letters on the device’s pad. Familiarize yourself with the use of a Palm compatible handheld device before you continue with this document. The Palm compatible handheld device connects to a room sensor through a CablePRO (AS-CBLPRO-2) or CVTPRO (AS-CVTPROx00-0) converter. See the Auxiliary Gear Technical Bulletin (LIT-6363080) for more information on these products. The Parameters screen and the Balance screen make up the two main sections of the software. In general, the various Parameters screens provide you with field data from the VMA. Setpoints are adjusted from these screens. The Balance screens provide you with a menu of tools to balance and calibrate the VMA load. Navigation and Action Buttons This section describes the Navigation and Action buttons. Figure 1 shows an example screen with VBT Navigation and Action buttons. Table 1 lists the buttons and descriptions. Notes: If the field is underlined, it is a writeable field. If no underline exists, the field is read-only. If the field contains a string of asterisks, the controller is not configured for this parameter and the field cannot be written. The handheld unit does not continuously communicate with the VMA. Instead, the information is updated each time the user synchronizes the VBT with the VMA. Touch letters or numbers to bring up keyboards. Up Arrow Changes the screen to the previous Parameters page. As shown in Figure 1, the Up button functions the same as the up arrow on the VBT screen. Note: Any changes made to this page are lost if the up arrow or down arrow is selected without first selecting the Send Changes button. Down Arrow Changes the screen to the next Parameters page. As shown in Figure 1, the Down button functions the same as the down arrow on the VBT screen. Note: Any changes made to this page are lost if the up arrow or down arrow is selected without first selecting the Send Changes button. VMA Sync (Synchronization Icon) Causes the VBT to communicate with the VMA and update the displayed data. Note: Any changes made to a page are lost if the VMA Sync is selected without first selecting the Send Changes button. Send Changes Sends any parameter changes to the VMA. If you do not make any changes to a field, then touching the Send Changes button does nothing and does not process the request. Screen Title Tabs Toggles the display between the Parameters and Balance screens. 6 VMA1200 Units Selection The VBT software uses either SI (°C; liters/second; Pa) or English (IP [°F; cfm; inches W.C.]) units. Select the desired units in the Welcome screen that appears when the VBT software starts (Figure 2). Alternately, use the Overrides page to override the currently selected units.
