Conference games still tied after a five-minute 5-on-5 overtime advance to a five-minute 3-on-3 overtime (and sudden victory shootout if still tied) with the team that wins the second overtime/shootout receiving an extra point in the standings (3/SW in the standings), making all games worth three points. The 3-on-3 overtime and shootouts only affect conference standings while the game is officially a tie for NCAA purposes. NCHC FaCts aNd Figures tHiS Week’S gameS • Only two NCHC teams are in action this weekend before the holiday Friday, Dec. 15 break as Denver hosts ECAC Hockey foe Dartmouth and Colorado College Dartmouth at No. 2/2 Denver, 7:05 p.m. MT faces Arizona State for the first time ever. NCHC teams are 4-4-2 against TV: Altitude 2/TSN 2 ECAC teams so far this season and 1-0-1 against ASU, as Omaha faced the Sun Devils back in October. Overall, NCHC teams are a combined 37- Saturday, Dec. 16 16-10 in non-conference play this season, with the .667 win percentage second among the six conferences behind only the Big Ten (.697). Arizona State at Colorado College, 6:07 p.m. MT • Five NCHC teams are ranked in the USCHO.com Poll, tying the Big Ten TV: CET Sports (Xfinity ch. 900 in Colo.) for the most from one conference, while all eight NCHC teams are receiving Dartmouth at No. 2/2 Denver, 7:05 p.m. MT votes and would be ranked in the top 25. NCHC teams own the top two TV: Altitude 2 spots in the USCHO.com Poll for the eighth straight week, with St. Cloud State switching places with Denver and taking over the top spot. With SCSU Sunday, Dec. 17 in the top spot, the NCHC has now held the No. 1 ranking in the USCHO Arizona State at Colorado College, 2:07 p.m. MT Poll 35 of the last 37 weeks, with half of the NCHC teams earning the No. 1 spot during that span (SCSU, DU, UND and UMD). Since the USCHO Poll on LaSt Week’S ReSuLtS Nov. 17, 2014, the NCHC has had a team ranked in the top two 93 times. Hockey East is second during that span with only 28 top-two appearances. Friday, Dec. 8 SCSU is also now No. 1 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll. In the *Miami 5, at No. 11/10 Western Michigan 2 Pairwise Ratings, all eight NCHC teams sit in the top 19. (page 9) *at Omaha 7, No. 17 Minnesota Duluth 5 • With conference play complete until January, previous history says a look *No. 5/5 North Dakota 2, at No. 2/2 St. Cloud State 2 (OT) at the current standings can be indicative of the final results. In the NCHC’s UND wins shootout, 1-0 (1 round) first four seasons, the Penrose Cup champion was already in first place as *Colorado College 4, at No. 1/1 Denver 4 (OT) - CC wins 3x3 OT of Jan. 1 two times (SCSU in 2013-14 and North Dakota in 2015-16). Last season on Jan. 1, Penrose Cup champion Denver was in second place, only Saturday, Dec. 9 one point out of first, while in 2014-15, eventual champion UND sat in *at No. 11/10 Western Michigan 4, Miami 3 (OT) fourth place on Jan. 1, but only two points back of first place. *No. 17 Minnesota Duluth 6, at Omaha 2 • According to the RPI on USCHO.com, NCHC teams have played eight of *at No. 2/2 St. Cloud State 3, No. 5/5 North Dakota 1 the 11 toughest schedules in the country. NCHC teams hold the top five *No. 1/1 Denver 1, at Colorado College 1 (OT) - DU wins 3x3 OT spots for toughest schedule, led by Denver, St. Cloud State and Omaha, respectively. Colorado College has played the “weakest” schedule among *National Collegiate Hockey Conference game NCHC teams, which is still 11th nationally. • Two NCHC players recorded hat tricks last weekend after only two had been recorded by NCHC players all season prior to that. Omaha’s Zach Jordan notched his first career hat trick last Friday against Minnesota Upcoming Games on NCHC.tv Duluth, while Western Michigan sophomore forward Wade Allison had a Friday, Dec. 15 and Saturday, Dec. 16 natural hat trick last Saturday in a comeback win over Miami for his second Darmouth at No. 2/2 Denver, 7:05 p.m. MT (both nights) hat trick of the season and of his career. He is the only player in the NCAA with multiple hat tricks this year.
