FCC Form 396 Appendix 3 April 2020- March 2021 Station Outreach Initiatives Throughout the year ending March 31, 2021 the WVIA studios were closed to public visitors and gatherings and most staff worked from home. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, WVIA nevertheless undertook several initiatives to support our EEO program. 1. Hosting Job Fair Northeast Broadcast Employment Fair canceled This annual event co-sponsored by WVIA Public Media (WVIA-FM/TV) and Bold Gold Media WBS, LP Licensee/Operator of WWRR WICK WYCK WTRW WCDL, normally held at WVIA Public Media studios in Pittston, PA, had to be canceled due to the pandemic and state restrictions on public events. Plans are to resume this annual event in March 2022. 2. Internship Program WVIA maintains an active internship program, offering career prep training to students from many regional colleges in a variety of departments. These are structured internship educational experiences resulting in college credit for the students. As most regional colleges restricted in-person instruction during the pandemic, WVIA supervised two (2) internships this year, fewer than normal. Events with educational institutions related to careers in broadcasting WVIA normally conducts numerous station tours for middle and high school students and college media majors interested in broadcasting careers. Since schools were closed and the WVIA building closed to visitors this year, we produced a 26-minute virtual tour featuring the WVIA Senior Vice President, Chief Technology Officer, Chief Content Officer, and Creative Director of Marketing and Branding demonstrating studio equipment and explaining various job functions. This video was broadcast several times during “Learning at Home” time on WVIA TV, reaching students without internet access for virtual learning, and it continues to be available for digital viewing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e76CUeTVjtE 4. WVIA employment recruiting improvements WVIA enacted significant improvements this year to our own recruitment outreach. a. Creation of new WVIA Careers Page for job seekers: The new page was redesigned to highlight our employer brand, including pictures, summary of company-sponsored benefits, a short video about our organizational purpose and job listings. b. Creation of new Applicant Tracking System (ATS): A new ATS was designed and developed to attract a more diverse slate of applicants for open positions at WVIA. The ATS is mobile friendly and now serves as a central repository for all applicant information, including demographic details. The ATS will allow us to coordinate applicant outreach efforts to more diverse populations, through effective reporting and job board connections. c. New Job Board coordination: The new ATS allows for electronic coordination and posting of all jobs to automatically to Indeed.com and Monster.com, which increases the overall flow of applicants to all open positions. The ATS also posts automatically to speciality job boards across the Internet, in an effort to attract a broader group of applicants to open positions. d. Creation of electronic Career Center for applicants: Through the ATS, applicants can create a Career Center profile, which will allow them to apply for multiple open positions at WVIA. The Career Center stores the applicant’s information, which provides WVIA with consistent demographic information for reporting purposes. .
