I hope that you will find this guide helpful in exploring the many experiences and opportunities our commu- nity has to offer. Jess A. Talamantes Burbank is known as the “Media Capi- Mayor tal of the World!” We are home to The Walt Disney Company, Warner Bros Studios, The Burbank Studios, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, ABC Studios, and KCET. In addition, these major studios are supported by various smaller media businesses in our city that provide sound stages for music artists and a wide variety of other key services, from post-production to wardrobe and make up, all of which are essential in the industry. While our city is the site of so much entertainment activity, it is also a community that is known for retaining its small town atmosphere. We have tree-lined streets where neighbors know each other by name and help one another in many ways. Our city serv- ices support both our businesses and residents. As a full-service city, we offer reliable utilities, police and fire services, and our recreational facilities and programs are exceptional. Whether you find yourself at our Starlight Bowl for a live performance, take in a round of golf at our DeBell Golf Course, play tennis at our Burbank Tennis Center, or just want to take a calm stroll in one of our many parks, Burbank has much to offer that will keep you busy and feeling our friendly com- munity spirit! Burbank is also home to areas of diverse shopping and dining. You can visit the Empire Center, the Burbank Town Center, or simply take a walk through downtown Burbank to peruse its theaters and shops. Take a stroll in tree-lined Magnolia Park, or visit the Burbank Boulevard shopping area. Even going for a drive along Riverside Drive offers a unique experience and plenty of pretty scenery! Burbank is known for its exceptional schools, its close-knit neighborhoods and its excellent city services. Our businesses and our neighborhoods stand out for their quality and variety. Burbank is unique, from the Rancho area where you will encounter horses on the streets, to the Media District where you will see the home of The Walt Disney Company and Warner Bros, to the flatlands where you will find Magnolia Park, and to the Verdugo Hillside where you will see tree-lined streets with spectacular views. We are a community that has something for everyone! Welcome to Burbank! Jess A. Talamantes Mayor of Burbank 4 WELCOME from the CHAMBER CHAIRMAN You could be anywhere in the world right now – but if you’re reading this, you’re in Burbank. Board Chair Lee Wochner Welcome When my wife and I left the East Coast in 1988, we were lucky enough to land in Burbank, and to raise three children here. We stayed for the same reasons so many others do: the good schools, the strong community, a vibrant business sector, and a solid, functioning city government. These are the things that underpin our city’s success. Burbank is the media capital of the world. Within our borders, you’ll find the headquarters of The Walt Disney Company, and also such name-brand entertainment giants as Warner Brothers, DC Comics, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network, as well as the literally thousands of companies associated with them. We also boast a historic airport, our own hospital, an exciting downtown, America’s largest IKEA, and much more. All told, Burbank is home to more than fourteen thousand businesses and organizations of all sorts and sizes. And yet, despite such global impact, Burbank has been able to hang onto its small-town feel. That’s thanks to a web of non-profits dedicated to helping the community, to parents and teachers actively engaged with our schools and their students, to civil servants and safety personnel working to make a difference, and to neighbors doing their part to keep up the neighborhood. It’s a place where people know each other, and know how to work together. The nation, and the world, could use more of that. Welcome to Burbank. Whether you’re here for a day, or for a lifetime, we’re glad to have you joining us. Best, Lee Wochner Chairman, Burbank Chamber of Commerce 5 WELCOME TO BURBANK!
