United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland Scholarships Rhodes, Marshall, and Mitchell Scholarships These opportunities are awarded to talented young students who exhibit not only outstanding scholarly achievement, but also exceptional character, commitment to service, and potential for leadership in their chosen field. Award Information British Marshall Scholarship Covers one or two years of study at a university in the United Kingdom. Scholarships are awarded to seniors, graduate students, and alumni who graduated after April 2013 and are citizens of the United States. A cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.7 is required. George J. Mitchell Scholarship Allows students who are U.S. citizens, aged 18 or over but not yet 30, to pursue one year of graduate study in any field at universities in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Prospective scholars must have a demonstrated record of intellectual distinction, leadership, and extra-curricular activity, as well as personal characteristics of honesty, integrity, fairness, and unselfish service to others, which indicates a potential for future leadership and contribution to society. Rhodes Scholarship Covers two or three years of study at the University of Oxford. Scholarships are awarded to seniors, graduate students, and alumni who are at least 18 years of age but not yet 24. Candidates must be citizens of one or the following countries or regions: Australia, Bermuda, Canada, Commonwealth Caribbean, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, United States, Zambia, or Zimbabwe. Pre-Application Process Applicant must submit the following items: 1. Completed application form (if handwritten, please print legibly) with signature 2. Short answer essays 3. A current Curriculum Vitae (CV) 4. A current transcript Note for potential Rhodes and Mitchell applicants Applicants are prohibited from editorial review of and assistance with the essay. Students will be required to certify this as follows: “I attest that this essay is my own work and is wholly truthful. Neither it nor any earlier draft has been edited by anyone other than me, nor has anyone else reviewed it to provide me with suggestions to improve it. I understand that any such editing or review would disqualify my application.” This prohibition includes assistance from peers, advisors, faculty members, mentors, and fellowship advisors.
