Like you, we are very excited about this new Classics event, the Mudgee region is one we have long-admired here at Bicycling Australia. Organisers are deeply grateful for the ongoing support of funding partner Destination NSW, it’s encouraging to see regional areas such as Mudgee receiving solid support from the state government. I also thank the Mayor of Mudgee, Des Kennedy, who has backed us from day one. He and his amazing team at the Mid-Western Council have warmly welcomed us all to the region and we will do all we can to make them proud. The 2020 Mudgee Classic was postponed due to COVID-19, so I am extremely happy to welcome you all here on the Start line for the 2021 event! I hope that you enjoy your experience. This is the inaugural event for Mudgee and it is almost sold out!! This guide will give you all the details you need for the event, for each course, how to prepare and what to bring on the day. If you then have any further questions before the event, please don’t hesitate to flick us an email. Otherwise, come ready to ride an unforgettable cycling event around a scenic course. Keep safety at the forefront of your mind when out riding. The roads are mostly still open to traffic. Shout out a “Hi” or words of encouragement to other riders on-course. Let them know your intent to pass by saying “rider right” to ensure safety on our roads. Remember that this Gran Fondo event is a ride, not a race. Ride to your abilities and respect all road rules, other riders and road users. There will be Traffic Controllers out on-course for your safety, we will also have volunteers on the course to provide direction for you, so please follow their instructions and listen to their warnings. Also please remember that this is a COVID safe event, so please keep your 1.5m social distancing and use the sanitising stations provided around the event regularly. We will also have QR codes to check-in when required for contact tracing. Please enjoy the full hospitality of the Event Village once you have completed your ride. There will be live music, gourmet food stalls and bars to enjoy your complimentary drink. Let’s make 2021 a year to remember for the Mudgee Classic! The Mudgee Classic is the second NSW-based cycling event for Bicycling Australia, catering for all riding abilities and offering three unique courses that will showcase the region’s spectacular scenery. The NSW Government is proud to support this event via its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW. Events such as the Mudgee Classic are the lifeblood of many regional towns, generating substantial economic and social benefits for local communities, which is why we’ll continue to do all we can to provide support to the NSW visitor economy and tourism and events industry. We have been working closely with NSW Health and relevant Government agencies to ensure best COVID Safe practices are adopted throughout the event. The Mudgee Classic has a COVID-19 Safety Plan for both the on-course and village areas. UNDER THE CURRENT NSW HEALTH GUIDELINES. ● Community sporting activities can operate to a maximum number of 3,000 participants. ● The Event Village must operate under the rule one person per two square metres. STAY HOME IF SICK OUR COVID SAFE EVENT STRATEGY* IS; ● If you, or your supporter are experiencing any COVID-related symptoms (such as a sore throat, cough or fever), please do not attend the event. ● Practice social distancing across all event areas. Follow event signage (including ground signage) regarding appropriate social distancing between other participants and event staff / volunteers. ● Hand sanitiser will be available at the Start Line, all rest stops and in the Event Village. PRACTICE SOCIAL All participants, supporters, staff and volunteers are to use the hand sanitiser to DISTANCING ensure good hygiene practice. ● Participants will commence the event at staggered start times and encouraged to arrive just before their nominated time to reduce gathering at the Start Line. ● Record keeping for all participants will occur via the unique seat post identification stickers. All supporters, staff and volunteers must check in using the Service NSW QR code at our information desk at both the Start Line and the Event Village areas. ● Additional cleaning of toilets, services and high touch areas will occur throughout the event. USE SANITISER ● Event signage will be displayed prominently through the event. (*Please note: The information above is based on the current Public Health Order. Riders who deferred their registration from 2020, and new riders who paid for postage, will have their registration kits and any merchandise ordered mailed out late March.
