Department for Culture, Media and Sport April 2012 Reappointment of National Gallery Trustees The Prime Minister has reappointed Lady Anne Heseltine and Mr Michael Hintze as Trustees of The National Gallery, for the four years commencing 6 March 2012 and 1 April 2012 respectively. Biographical details Lady Heseltine Lady Heseltine chairs the Advisory Board of the Oxford University Museum of Natural History (2009 - ). She has previously been a Trustee of both the V&A (1997-2002), and the Imperial War Museum (1991-1998). She has also served on the Board of Visitors for the Ashmolean Museum (1988-2007). In 1999 she received the Distinguished Friend of Oxford Award from the University of Oxford in recognition of her fundraising, and was made an Honorary Fellow of Royal Holloway College in 2011. She is an adviser to the Oxford Philomusica and a Trustee of the Burlington Magazine. She holds no other public appointments. Michael Hintze Mr Hintze founded the London-based hedge fund CQS in 1999, having previously worked at Salomon Brothers, Credit Suisse First Boston and Goldman Sachs. A founder of the Hintze Family Charitable Foundation, he is also a Trustee of the Institute of Economic Affairs and Chairman of The Prince of Wales’s Foundation for Building Community. He holds no other public appointments. Notes to Editors The National Gallery houses one of the greatest collections of European painting in the world. It contains paintings from the 13th to the early 20th centuries, representing all the major European schools of painting with examples of all the major artists’ work. These pictures belong to the public and entrance to see them is free. Its trustees are not remunerated. The appointment process has followed the OCPA Code of Practice. Appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for political activity in the United Kingdom in the past five years (if any declared) to be made public. Lady Heseltine has declared no such political activity, and Mr Hintze has declared donations to the Conservative and Unionist Party. 1 .
