ST HELENA CURRENCY The St Helena Pound (SHP) is the local currency. However, the Great British Pound (GBP), which has parity with SHP, is also widely accepted on Island. Most business outlets accept cash payments only. There is NO ATM service on St Helena. Visitors should take the opportunity to withdraw or exchange currency upon arrival to the Island at the Bank of St Helena Currency Exchange Kiosk, located on the ground floor of the St Helena Airport Terminal. A limited supply of GBP Sterling is also available, with a 2% commission charge (against SHP only). Bank of St Helena Rates of Exchange are advertised on our website, www.sainthelenabank.com, rates are set weekly, effective from every Monday. TRAVELLERS CHEQUES The Bank can encash GBP Travellers Cheques only. These must be accompanied by the required supporting documentation (see the Identification Requirements below).
