Donatelli, 50, is Wheeling’s all-time leader in coaching wins, posting an overall record of 147-119-10-22. He is also the only coach in Nailers history to take the team to consecutive playoff appearances. Donatelli served one season as the Nailers’ assistant coach before taking over as head coach mid season in 2011-12. In his five years total behind the bench for Wheeling, Donatelli’s teams qualified for the Kelly Cup Playoffs four times. After three years playing at Boston University from 1984-87, Donatelli embarked on a seven-year pro hockey career that included 35 NHL games in which he put up three goals and three assists for six points. In his third and final season with the Terriers, Donatelli was a teammate to Sullivan. In addition to his pro hockey résumé, Donatelli had extensive experience playing for the United States. Donatelli represented the United States three times in the IIHF World Championships, captained Team USA in the 1985 World Junior Championship, and made the U.S. Olympic squad in 1988 and 1992, serving as team captain in ’92. Chris Taylor is in his first season as assistant coach of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He was hired by the Penguins organization on Aug. 2, 2016 along with fellow assistant J.D. Forrest. Taylor, 44, spent the past four seasons behind the bench of the Rochester Americans as an assistant coach. He played professional hockey for 19 years in North America and Europe, but logged the most time with Rochester. In 519 games with the Americans, Taylor accrued 142 goals and 339 assists for 481 points and served as the team’s captain for two seasons. Taylor is third all-time in club history in assists and was inducted into the Americans Hall of Fame in 2015. After retiring in 2011, Taylor immediately joined Rochester’s staff as a development coach before becoming an assistant one year later. A Stratford, Ont. native, Taylor also logged 149 NHL games playing for the New York Islanders, Boston Bruins and Buffalo Sabres. J.D. Forrest is in his first season as assistant coach of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He was hired by the Penguins organization on Aug. 2, 2016 along with fellow assistant Chris Taylor. Forrest spent the past season coaching Red Bull Salzburg’s farm team in Austria. During the 2015-16 season, Forrest’s team went 32-22 in the international Red Bull Hockey Series and went unbeaten (4-0) in its season-ending tournament. Before coaching Salzburg’s farm team, the 35-year-old from Auburn, N.Y. served as an assistant coach for the U.S. National Team Development Program in 2014-15. While with the USNTDP, Forrest had the opportunity to mentor future top NHL draft picks Matthew Tkachuk, Clayton Keller, Luke Kunin and Auston Matthews. He won a gold medal with the team at the IIHF U18 World Junior Championship. Following four years at Boston College, Forrest played defense for the Albany River Rats and Worcester Sharks in the AHL in 2007-08. Forrest also played pro hockey in Finland, Sweden, Switzerland and Germany.
