The Bon-accord Directory, for 1841-2, is offered to the public as a great improvement upon its predecessor, inasmuch as First, The List of Names and Designations has been ex- tended, and rendered scrupulously accurate in detail. This department of the work being of such a complicated and diffi- cult character, it can hardly be expected to be absolutely cor- rect; but it is confidently hoped that any errors that may be discovered will be of a very trivial description. Second, The Mercantile Tables and Local Lists have been constructed so as to suit the convenience of both the Counting- house and the Domestic Establishment. The section which comprises the Postage Rates presents, perhaps, the most com- prehensive and valuable epitome of Postage Duties and Regu- lations that can possibly be compiled. The information given under this head is drawn from the most authentic sources; and the calculations upon which the Tables are based, may be de- pended upon as extremely accurate. From these Tables, it may be ascertained at once what the Postage of a letter is from the Post-office of Aberdeen to any part of the world. Third, The work is accompanied by a Map of the County, a Front View of the new Public Schools Building, and a Per- spective Drawing of the new Market Street. The Map of the County is engraved on steel, by Lizars, and corrected down to the present year. The views are drawn with great care, and lithographed in the highest style of the art. Generally, The publication partakes more of the character of an Almanac than its predecessor; and for most practical purposes, it may be said to be an Almanac and a Directory combined. In these circumstances, it is hoped that The Bon-Accord Directory, will be considered worthy of the confidence and encouragement of the Citizens of Aberdeen. Aberdeen, July 21, 1841.
