There will be an official ribbon cutting at around 12.30pm and they are very pleased to announce that the elected Mayor of Salford, Ian Stewart will be joining for this part of the official launch. “Mustard Tree is so pleased to have this opportunity to join with others in making a lasting difference in Little Hulton. Poverty, extreme inequality and disadvantage should never find a home in our communities. We are honoured to be a new part of a great team of groups and individuals who are determined to find ways to a better future.” Adrian Nottingham, CEO Mustard Tree]. Little Hulton is the most westerly ward in Salford, seven miles west of Salford city centre and three miles south of Bolton. In the past it has suffered severe levels of deprivation but it now has a range of active resident and community groups who are working to improve the quality of life for local people. Mustard Tree has been invited to join in these activities and now with help from City West housing association, Salford City Council, Churches Together in Little Hulton, and the Greater Manchester business community it has opened its new branch which is open Monday – Friday, 10:00 – 16:00. The first service they are offering is low-cost furniture and household items to help people with their accommodation needs. Future plans include help with food and next year they plant to start providing a range of training facilities. Mustard Tree was established as a charity in 1994 by Dave and Shona Smith who started simply by taking food and drink onto the streets and spending time listening to those sleeping rough. The Charity helps around 4,500 people every year by providing support and working towards long term solutions. Projects range from improving life skills, supporting progression routes into employment and counteracting the effects of poverty and isolation.
