DEC. HAWAI’I BOWL Time: 5 p.m. EST Quick slant: This is the ninth time since 2002 that the Rainbow Warriors are 24 BYU (7-5) vs. Hawaii (9-5) TV: ESPN playing in the Hawaii Bowl. BYU has won eight of its last 12 bowl games. DEC. INDEPENDENCE BOWL Time: 4 p.m. EST Quick slant: The game is pitting Manny Diaz’s past against his present. The 26 Miami (6-6) vs. Louisiana Tech (9-3) TV: ESPN Hurricanes coach was the Louisiana Tech defensive coordinator in 2014. Michigan (7-5) TV: ESPN Kentucky has made five bowl appearances in the past nine years. Louisville coach Scott Satterfield is on a personal five-year bowl streak. Virginia is making its first appearance in the Orange Bowl. DEC. BELK BOWL Time: Noon EST Quick slant: This is Virginia Tech’s 27th straight bowl appearance, the longest 31 Kentucky (7-5) vs. Virginia Tech (8-4) TV: ESPN current streak in the nation. The Wildcats have won three straight games. SUN BOWL Time: 2 p.m. EST Quick slant: The Sun Devils beat three Top 25 opponents this season. Interim Florida State (6-6) vs. Arizona St. (7-5) TV: CBS coach Odell Haggins replaced the fired Willie Taggart for Florida State. LIBERTY BOWL Time: 3:45 EST Quick slant: The Wildcats improved to 8-4 in the debut season of coach Chris Kansas State (8-4) vs. Navy (9-2) TV: ESPN Klieman. Navy is making its second appearance in the Liberty Bowl. The Panthers won five more games than last season. ALAMO BOWL Time: 7:30 EST Quick slant: The Utes blew their chance at a potential playoff spot when they Texas (7-5) vs. Utah (11-2) TV: ESPN lost to Oregon 3in the Pac-12 title game. Texas lost three of its last five games. JAN. CITRUS BOWL Time: 1 p.m. EST Quick slant: The Crimson Tide missed the playoff for the first time in the 1 Michigan (9-3) vs. Alabama (10-2) TV: ABC format’s six seasons. The Wolverines have lost their past three bowl games. OUTBACK BOWL Time: 1 p.m. EST Quick slant: The Gophers started 9-0 before stumbling to lose their grip on the Minnesota (10-2) vs. Auburn (9-3) TV: ESPN Big Ten West title. This will be Auburn’s 44th bowl trip. ROSE BOWL Time: 5 p.m. EST Quick slant: The Ducks won the Pac-12 title by beating Utah. The Badgers lost Oregon (11-2) vs. Wisconsin (10-3) TV: ESPN the Big Ten title game to playoff-bound Ohio State. SUGAR BOWL Time: 8:45 p.m. EST Quick slant: The Bulldogs are playing in the Sugar Bowl for the second straight Georgia (11-2) vs. Baylor (11-2) TV: ESPN season.
