His occupation was listed as House Joiner Carpenter. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY PRESS Sat 22nd June 1940 DEATH OF MR. A. HAYDEN A respected resident, Mr. Alfred HAYDEN, died at Clovelly, Newnham-road, on Saturday. He was the eldest surviving son of Mr. Henry HAYDEN, of Newchurch, and a brother of Mr. F. HAYDEN, of Newchurch, and of Ald. E. HAYDEN, of Ryde. He had lived here practically all his life, and for a very long time was in the employ as a carpenter of the late Ald. E. JAMES, and latterly of his son, Mr. H. JAMES, retiring only last September. He was one of the oldest members of the Methodist Church, of which he was a trustee, and formerly a circuit steward. He was a member of the local tent of Rechabites, in which he had held office, and of the East Medina Lodge of Oddfellows. A son died some years since, and his wife nearly two years ago. He is survived by two daughters The funeral took place on Wednesday at the Methodist Church. The service was conducted by the Rev. A. George Lloyd, of Ryde, and the Rev. A. TRIGGS, and both made feeling references to the deceased's association with, and work for, the church. Mrs. A. TRAVES was at the organ, and appropriate hymns were sung. The mourners were Mrs. JARVIS (daughter), Mr. Frank HAYDEN, Ald. E. HAYDEN (brothers), Mr. and Mrs. E. WILTSHIRE (brother-in-law and sister), Mr. H. H. JARVIS (son-in-law), Mrs. READ, Carisbrooke, and Miss K. HAYDEN, Newchurch (nieces), Several friends were present. The beautiful floral tributes included those from the Methodist Church, the Rechabites, and his former workmates at Messrs. JAMES.
