Job Opportunity: The Armitt Library and Museum Centre Manager/curator Salary: from £28,000 per annum plus annual bonus Contract type: Full time 12 months renewable Closing date: 30 September 2020 The Armitt Library and Museum Centre is a unique museum, art gallery and library situated on the campus of the University of Cumbria in the middle of Ambleside, in the heart of the Lake District. Founded in 1912, The Armitt provided a base for celebrated residents of the Lake District to meet, discuss and exchange ideas. It is now a financially independent accredited museum, incorporated as a charity. It has significant collections, ranging from the artistic works of Beatrix Potter to those of Kurt Schwitters, and an extensive library including exceptional collections of Lake District-focused travel, mountaineering and guide books. The successful candidate will join the Museum at an exciting time, as you and the Trustees develop the vision for the next phase of The Armitt’s development. You will be responsible for managing the premises and staff, marketing and promoting The Armitt, with a particular focus on expanding audiences and increasing visitor numbers and income, and for curating the museum’s collections. You will have significant experience in a museum or heritage environment with a proven record of success in marketing and promotion. You will have excellent communication skills and a real understanding of the importance of customer service and inspiring a team. The job will need to take into account the recently announced alliance with Keswick Museum. 1 .
