Texas 4 INTRODUCTION Parenting in197o is a comprehensive listing of the current holdings of the Early Childhood Program's PARENTING MATERIALS INFORMATION CENTER (PMIC) at the Southwest Educational Development Laboratory. This project, funded by tlw National histitute of Education, was created to produce an exportable, replicable information center model. At the pment time, some selected materials from this collection have been analyzed; and detailed, one-page Information Sheets have been produced. These Inforitiation Sheets, indexed to istorage and retriev al system, constitute the exportable model that is currently being tested and revised. A prototype wilt be fully operational by July 1976. An asterisk ('` ) by the title identifies items that are curnntly incorporated into the PMIC retrieval syetem, and for which a detailed Information Sheet has been prepared. These Information Sheets arc available to you. They will give you a detailed description of the material's purpose, content, physical appearance, and any special characteristics. For complete ordering and price information, please see the enclosed insert. Parpnting in 1976is the third fisting produced by the PMIC, an d it incorporatei most of the items listed in the previous editions and all new acquisitions since June 1975. Our selection criteria have been directed to those materialsfor or aboutparents and parenting,/parent education/parent involvement. The materials tncluded are of particular intern* to the general public and to practitioners, rather than to the research community. Most materials deal with the applications of research findings and concepts (the "how tes") rather than the research itself (the why's); although there are many exceptions. The titles listed are divided into 19 major subject areas. The scope of each major area is described at the beginning of each chapter. The entries include tide, author, copyright date, number of pages, price and publisher. A complete publisher's list with mailing addresses appears in the back. We have tried to provide complete addresses and current prices for the materials, although in some cases there may be changes due to project .4 terminations, experimental versions, out of print status, etc. Therefore, prices and availability may have changed without our knowledge. If. a book is available in both hardback and paperback format, both prices are included, although only the hardback publieher is listed. In the cmc of documents available from ERIC (Education Resources Information Center), the corresponding ED number has been included to be used when ordering from ERIC. The inclusion of a title in this listiog is in no way an endorsement or a recommendation of that item. The absence of any item from the list can very well be an oversight which we would like to (sweet as soon as possible. We are interested in increasing the comprehensiveness of the collection and ask you to help with your suggestions. Please enclose bibliographical data, publisher, price, etc.,if possible.
