People And blessed be God’s kingdom, now and for ever. Amen. Presider There is one Body and one Spirit; People There is one hope in God’s call to us. Presider One Lord, one Faith, one Baptism; People One God and Father of all. THE COLLECT FOR THE DAY Presider The Lord be with you. People And also with you. Presider Let us pray. Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship in the mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord: Give us grace so to follow your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to those ineffable joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen. A READING FROM ISAIAH s not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and Ibring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover them, and not to hide yourself from your own kin? Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up quickly; your vindicator shall go before you, the glory of the Lord shall be your rearguard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry for help, and he will say, Here I am. f you remove the yoke from among you, the pointing of the finger, the speaking of evil, if you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness Iand your gloom be like the noonday. The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs in parched places, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters never fail. Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to live in. Isaiah 58:6-12 Reader Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people. People Thanks be to God. 3 PSALM 149 Anglican Chant (Stanford) 1 Alleluia! Sing to God a new song; * sing praise in the congregation of the faithful 2 Let the people of Israel rejoice in their Maker; * let the children of Zion be joyful in their Monarch. 3 Let them praise God’s Name in the dance; * let them sing praise with timbrel and harp. 4 God takes pleasure in the people * and adorns the poor with victory. 5 Let the faithful rejoice in triumph; * let them be joyful on their beds. 6 Let the praises of God be in their throat * and a two-edged sword in their hand, 7 To wreak vengeance on the nations * and punishment on the peoples; 8 To bind their rulers in chains * and their nobles with links of iron; 9 To inflict on them the judgement decreed; * this is glory for all God’s faithful people. Alleluia! People Glory to you, Lord Christ. Rejoice on that day and leap for joy, for surely your reward is great in heaven; for that is what their ancestors did to the prophets. “But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. “Woe to you who are full now, for you will be hungry. “Woe to you who are laughing now, for you will mourn and weep. “Woe to you when all speak well of you, for that is what their ancestors did to the false prophets. “But I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. If anyone strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from anyone who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt.
