Call for Nominations for Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR HONORARY DOCTOR OF DIVINITY DEGREE For 2013 Nominations: The Honorary Degree Committee hereby invites nominations from the members of the AST Senate, the Board of Governors, students in course and graduates. The Honorary Degree Committee will receive nominations until the closing date, and will review all nominations and present a maximum of two names to Senate at their April 25, 2012 meeting. All nominations must be kept in strict confidence. No approach is to be made to the candidate. Letters of recommendation should only be obtained in strictest confidence, and will not be accepted for nominations until such time as the Committee makes a request for letters of recommendation (maximum of 2). Where the Committee is made aware that confidentiality has been breached it will no longer proceed with consideration of the candidate. After Senate has agreed upon a recommended recipient, the President of AST will then make the necessary contact, and only after confirmation of acceptance will the name be made public. Criteria: Atlantic School of Theology through its Doctor of Divinity honoris causa gives recognition to persons who have distinguished themselves in service to the Church and to their community and beyond their denomination and community. Atlantic School of Theology honorary doctorate therefore is awarded to those persons who exemplify the ecumenical ethos of the School as reflected in the School’s mission statement and who would be perceived as bridge-builders. Atlantic School of Theology may award the Doctor of Divinity honoris causa to persons whose public views are perceived to be consistent with the ecumenical ethos of the School, and who have made outstanding lifelong contributions in any of the following: church, community, business, public service, culture, arts and education.
