He died1 on 30 Jan 1881 in , Queensland, Australia and was buried2 on 31 Jan 1881 in Cabarlah, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. Cornaslieve is a townland near the village of Virginia, County of Cavan, Ireland. Information comes from 1821 census records of Cornaslieve, Lurgan, county of Cavan: - Samuel Plant 53 years, farmer; - Mary (wife) spinner, 45 years; - Martha, 18 years, spinner; - Jane 16 years, spinner; - William 14 years, labourer; and - Mary 12 years spinner, Susan 10 years spinner (information from Barry Deans.) Samuel migrated to Queensland aboard the ship "Norman Morrison" with his two daughters arriving on December 20th 1863. Meryl 's notes have Samuel as the coachman for the Bell family. He and the daughter of the house (Jean Bell) contracted a run-away marriage (common in those days). They then settled on a small tenement farm as she was disowned by the family. (Not proven) The older sons went to England and hired themselves out as harvesters nearly every year. The two older boys came to Australia first in 1856. Brother Samuel followed in 1858. Together James and Samuel Jnr helped clear Ruthven Street, Toowoomba. A storm washed away some of the soil used to fill the holes left when stumps were removed and a bullocky lost his team down one a few days later. They saved up and sent for the rest of the family who arrived in 1863. Ellen and Frank Sheridan came out with the rest of the family in 1863, but have not found Frank's name on a shipping list. They all settled in the Geham district and most were buried in the Cabarlah Cemetery in an area commonly known as "Plants Little Acre". Some of the sons did very well for themselves. The rest of the family would not do business with some of the sons. In that generation there were 47 first cousins. Of his own sons, there were so many Sam Plants in succeeding generations that they were known by the nicknames such as "Fat Sam", "Black Sam", "Big Sam", "White Sam", and as many others as you could think of.
