StudiesandResearch Advisoryand Evaluation Research Buliding ProjectSupport 2015-16 ANNUALREPORT TechnicalSupportProjects GlimpsesofProjects2015‒2016 MercyCorps MercyCorpshasbeenworkinginconflictaffectedareasofAssamwithits Assam implementingpartnerAjagarSocialCircle(ASC)andKarbiAnglongArea Upliftment Society (KAAUS). RedR India facilitated the development of contingencyplansforthesepartnersinthreedistrictsofAssamwiththeaim ofstrengtheningtheemergencypreparednessandresponsecapacities.The contingencyplansweredevelopedthroughaconsultativeprocessofkey staffmemberswhodevelopedscenariobasedresponseplanswithclearrole clarity for quality and timely response. The plans also provided recommendationsforcapacityaugmentationtostrengthenhumanitarian responsecapacityoftheseorganisations. SwissAid 2015wasthe3rdconsecutivedroughtyearinMarathwada.Consecutive Maharashtra droughtshaveaggravatedthesocio-economicvulnerabilitiesofwomen, children,landlessandthefarmers.RedRIndiaprovidedtechnicalsupportto SwissAidfortheRapidDroughtNeedsAssessmentinBeedandOsmanabad districtsofMarathwadaregion.Theassessmentwasconductedthrougha consultativeprocesswiththegovernmentstakeholders,PRIsandmeetings withaffectedmen,womenandchildren.Alongwiththeidentificationof criticalneeds,theassessmentidentifiedinterventionsforimmediaterelief andlong-termactionstoreducevulnerabilitiesarisingoutoferraticweather conditionsintheareasofFoodSecurity,Nutrition,WaterScarcity,Livelihood andGender. 2015-16 ANNUALREPORT TechnicalSupportProjects GlimpsesofProjects2015‒2016 BMGF, TheBill&MelindaGatesFoundation(BMGF)intheyear2014commissioned UttarPradesh RedR India to conduct a detailed study on the ʻDisaster Management CapacitiesintheStateofUttarPradeshʼ.Inkeepingwiththeexpanseand vastness of the State of Uttar Pradesh ‒ as regards size, population, topography and the long standing hazard profile, a study to assess and evaluate the disaster management capacities of the State became of proportionalrelevance.AsonMarch2016,RedRIndiahasfinishedthefield workforthestudyin16districtsofUttarPradeshandisfinalizingthestudy findingswhichwillprovideconcreterecommendationsforfurtherworkin theState. TataSustainability RedRIndiaiscollaboratingwithTataSustainabilityGroup(TSG)forcontinual Group, humanitariancapacitybuildingsince2013.TheTataGroup,throughTata Relief Committee (TRC), was one of the earliest responders to the Uttarakhand Uttarakhand Floods of 2013 disaster through a dedicated rehabilitation program.AbriefneedsassessmentstudywasconductedbyRedRIndiain RudraprayagandPithoragarhdistrictsinJuly2015togatherabroadandyet holisticviewofthecurrentcapacities,resources,ongoingactions,theDRR andpreparednesssituationinUttarakhandatthetime.Theoutcomewasa summaryneeds-gapanalysisbasedonwhichspecificinterventionsandan indicativeplan/mechanismforcapacitybuildingwereproposed. 2015-16 ANNUALREPORT TechnicalSupportProjects JointRedRMission RedRInternational, A7.9magnitudeearthquakestruckNepalonApril25,2015at11.56local Nepal time followed by strong aftershocks, including 6.7 and 7.3 magnitude quakesonApril26andMay12,2015,resultinginlargescaledamageto buildingsandinfrastructure,andmanycasualties.AspartofajointRedR mission with RedR UK and Australia, RedR India led the federationʼs earthquakeresponseworkinNepal.Themissionwasactivelyengagedin providing humanitarian capacity building support to communities, local organisations,INGOs,GovernmentandtheUN.Thecapacitybuildingwork involveddistrictlevelcoursesonWASH,SPHERE,CommunityBasedDisaster Preparedness,EssentialsofHumanitarianPractices,HumanitarianLogistics, MainstreamingDisasterRiskReduction,LivelihoodsandSchoolSafetyand extensive Sheltering training response to recovery to rehabilitation.
