1 The Mass Entrance Hymn – Omitted in Advent when the Great Litany is recited or sung - The Introit may be recited - During a Solemn Eucharist the Altar may be censed Celebrant The Lord be with you People And with thy spirit Celebrant Let us pray Almighty God, unto whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid; Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love thee, and worthily magnify thy Holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen The Introit may be recited The priest then may say the Decalogue or the Summary of the Law: The Decalogue God spake these words, and said: I am the Lord thy God; thou shalt have none other gods but me. Lord, have mercy upon us and incline our hearts to keep this law. Amen The Homily The Liturgy of the Eucharist The Offertory The Offertory Proper – A psalm or psalms are said or sung The people sit. A hymn may be sung, or the priest may read a verse. If no hymn is sung, the priest may audibly say these offertory prayers: At the offering of the bread: Blessed art thou, Lord, God of all creation. Through thy goodness we have this bread to offer, Fruit of the earth and work of human hands It will become for us the Body of Christ. To which the people may respond: Blessed be God for ever. At the offering of the chalice: 6 Blessed art thou, Lord, God of all creation. Through thy goodness we have this wine to offer, fruit of the vine and work of human hands. It will become for us the Blood of Christ. To which the people may respond: Blessed be God for ever. May the Lord accept the sacrifice we offer unto thee for the living and for the dead, for the increase of grace, the forgiveness of sins and the reward of eternal life. Amen The priest may here announce the intentions for which the liturgy is offered Celebrant: Pray, brethren, that this my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God the Father Almighty. People: May the Lord receive this sacrifice at thy hands, to the praise and glory of his Name: both to our benefit and that of all his holy Church. Amen The Prayer for the Church Celebrant: Let us pray for the whole state of Christ's Church and the World The people may remain standing, sit or kneel, and the Deacon or Celebrant continues Almighty and everliving God, who by thy holy Apostle hast taught us to make prayers, and supplications, and to give thanks for all men; We humbly beseech thee most mercifully to accept our (alms and) oblations, and to receive these our prayers, which we offer unto thy Divine Majesty; beseeching thee to inspire continually the Universal Church with the spirit of truth, unity, and concord: And grant that all those who do confess thy holy Name may agree in the truth of thy holy Word, and live in unity and godly love. 7 We beseech thee also, so to direct and dispose the hearts of all Christian Rulers, that they may truly and impartially administer justice, to the punishment of wickedness and vice, and to the maintenance of thy true religion, and virtue. Give grace, O heavenly Father, to ____________, our Bishop and all Bishops, priests and deacons, that they may, both by their life and doctrine, set forth thy true and lively Word, and rightly and duly administer thy holy Sacraments. And to all thy People give thy heavenly grace; and especially to this congregation here present; that, with meek heart and due reverence, they may hear, and receive thy holy Word; truly serving thee in holiness and righteousness all the days of their life. Grant this, O Father, for Jesus Christ's sake, our only Mediator and Advocate. Amen The General Confession Ye who do truly and earnestly repent you of your sins, and are in love and charity with your neighbors, and intend to lead a new life, following the commandments of God, and walking from henceforth in his holy ways; Draw near with faith, and take this holy Sacrament to your comfort; and make your humble confession to Almighty God, devoutly kneeling.
