U.S. Department of Justice United States Attorney Eastern District of Pennsylvania 615 Chestnut Street Suite 1250 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19106-4476 (215) 861-8200 24 20 For Immediate Release June , 08 NEWS RELEASE PHILADELPHIA - United States Attorney Pat Meehan and Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham today announced the filing of a six-count superseding indictment1 charging that from November 2005 through January 2006, Mychael Saunders, Brandon Woodson, Abu Thomas, and others known and unknown to the grand jury, conspired to rob numerous commercial establishments in and around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at gunpoint, including C & C Sports Center located at 101 Geiger Road in Philadelphia. The indictment also charges Abu Thomas as an accessory after the fact for his role in having harbored and assisted those who participated in the robberies of C & C and other businesses. Finally, the indictment charges Mychael Saunders with witness intimidation for threats that he made following his arrest. INFORMATION REGARDING THE DEFENDANTS NAME ADDRESS AGE Mychael Saunders Philadelphia, PA 23 Brandon Woodson Philadelphia, PA 22 Abu Thomas Philadelphia, PA 21 If convicted, Mychael Saunders faces a statutory maximum sentence of lifetime imprisonment, including a 7 year mandatory minimum term of imprisonment, a $1,000,000 fine, up to 5 years supervised release, and a $400 special assessment. If convicted, Brandon Woodson faces a statutory maximum sentence of 40 years imprisonment, a $500,000 fine, up to 5 years supervised release, and a $200 special assessment. If convicted, Abu Thomas faces a statutory maximum sentence of 40 years imprisonment, a $750,000 fine, up to 5 years supervised release, and a $300 special assessment. 1An Indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a federal initiative designed to identify and prosecute firearms offenders in federal court, where they are likely to receive a substantial sentence upon conviction. This case was jointly investigated by the Philadelphia Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
