The girls created and painted a mural for the lab on their own time after school. According to art and photography teacher Melissa Johnides, the pair went above expectations with the project. Canales created the design for the mural and said it “represents the variety of nationalities and cultures in Glen Cove.” Alvarado has moved out of the Glen Cove area and was not present for its completion. Page 2 Gold Coast Gazette Week of February 26, 2015 The Glen Cove Public Library Announces Its Glen Head Fifth Grade 2015—2016 Budget Vote And Trustee Election Tuesday, March 31, 2015 Westward Expansion Vote And Let Your Voice Be Heard The Glen Cove Public Library will present its Annual Budget to the citizens of Glen Cove for a vote on Tuesday, March 31st, 2015 in the Library’s Community Room. Polls will be open from 9am to 9pm. Also, on March 31st, the public will be asked to vote for one member of the five- member Library Board of Trustees for a five-year term and one member for a one-year term to fill a vacant, unexpired term. A hearing on the Library Budget and a chance to meet the Trustee candidates will be held in the Community Room on Tuesday, March 17th at 7pm. All are encouraged to attend. During the past year, the Library purchased Kindle e-readers for teens, and twelve new public use computers. Moving forward with our dedicated effort to help improve literacy in our community, we have trained twenty volunteers for one-on-one assistance with adult literacy in English and Spanish. Additionally, over 100 patrons have taken advantage of our Introduction to Computer classes. We have supplemented our Voices of Glen Cove collection with seven new presentations from former Glen Cove Mayors and other influential residents. During the summer months, with the help of AHRC, the Library was able to provide a healthy-lunch-storytime for many of the children in our community. We greatly appreciate those who have supported the Library in the past and will need the continued support of our community to continue providing new and exciting resources and events in the future.
