NEW in 2013: Team Divisions: Male, Female, and Coed. Ages 14 & Under Ages 15-19 EVENTS: NEW in 2013: 6 Person Team (Male/Female/Co-Ed), Singles, Doubles (Male/Female/Co-Ed). Athletes may participate in both a Male or Female teams along with a Co-Ed Team. Athletes may participate in both a Male or Female Doubles along with a Co-Ed Doubles. QUALIFICATION: 6 Person Teams may be entered either through Direct Entry or Local Qualifiers. Singles and Doubles will be Direct Entry. AAU MEMBERSHIP: All participants must be members of the AAU which is $14.00 per athlete. Visit www.aausports.org and click on Join AAU to become a member of the AAU. BE PREPARED and register your coaches early! You can no longer register for non-athlete (coach) membership onsite at the event. ENTRY FEE: The first event entered is $45 per athlete. The second event is $35 per athlete and the third event or more event is $30 per athlete. The entry fee is in addition to the AAU membership card. All fees are non-refundable. Athletes wanting to bowl on Co-Ed Teams that are competing on Male or Female Teams are allowed. However, they must pay the entry fee based on the number of events each bowler is competing in. ONLINE REGISTRATION & ENTRY DEADLINE: Participants must register by Thursday, July 18, 2013. If space is available, late entries may be accepted and an automatic $10.00 late entry fee will be applied to any entries received after Thursday, July 18, 2013. Guaranteed overnight delivery is strongly advised and will become necessary if it is the only way to ensure that all forms are to be received by the published deadline date. HOUSING: The AAU makes every effort to provide the best quality experience for athletes, coaches and families that participate in AAU events. Athletes, coaches and families can choose from a wide variety of accommodations in various price points and with several levels of amenities. The Detroit Sports Commission and the housing partner, PSE, have carefully selected host hotels for participants with the lowest rates available. With traffic and other unknowns in a large urban area like metro Detroit, the hotels selected for the program not only provide great rates, but also the greatest convenience in regards to location and other amenities. In order to complete your registration to participate in the 2013 AAU Junior Olympic Games, you are required to use hotel accommodations as advertised at www.aaujrogames.org. All reservations are handled through PSE Housing Services. DO NOT CONTACT THE HOTELS DIRECTLY AS YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE THE DISCOUNTED AAU RATE. Saturday, July 27, 2013 Athlete Check-In Sunday, July 28, 2013 9 AM Nationals Singles and Doubles Competition Qualifying Male-Female All Age Divisions Sunday, July 28, 2013 2 PM Singles National Finals Monday, July 29, 2013 9 AM Doubles National Finals Monday, July 29, 2013 1 PM National All Male and Female Team Championships Tuesday, July 29, 2013 9 AM National Co-Ed Team Championships NEW in 2013: QUALIFYING ROUNDS: Team Every team (6 players) will bowl 2 regular bowling games on the same pair of lanes. Teams will then move to another set of lanes for AAU Bowling Team completion (known as Baker). Each team will bowl 10 games of Baker. After the first set of 5 AAU Baker games, the team will move to another pair of lanes for the second set of 5 final games of AAU Baker. Scores from the 2 regular bowling games (for all 6 bowlers) along with scores from the 10 Baker games will be added together for a total composite score. The Top 5 Teams scores with a combined score of two regular and 10 AAU Baker games in each division will be seeded for the Stepladder Competition Finals to determine a National Champion for each age division. Each Baker Game will have five bowlers with one alternate. The alternate bowler can be rotated in at the beginning of each Baker Game. Singles/Doubles Individuals will bowl 4 regular games. Everyone who bowls will be bowling for a Singles Event score. Bowlers will move to a new pair of lanes after the first set of 2 games. In addition, if 2 individuals have registered for Doubles, these same 4 games will also be used to determine Doubles Finals Qualifiers. The top 16 Singles scores in each division will move to Finals Round. The Top 5 Doubles Team in each division will move to the Finals Round. NEW in 2013: FINALS: Team Events The top 5 teams will advance to a Best of 3 Step-Ladder AAU Baker Finals. The 5th place qualifier will face the 4th place qualifier in a Best of 3 (first to win 2 games advances) AAU Baker contest. The winner will face the 3rd place qualifier and so on until a National Champion is crowned. Each division will have there specific teams in their designated specific finals. The Top 5 Teams in each division will receive championship medals. Doubles: The top 5 doubles teams will advance to a Best of 3 Step-Ladder AAU Baker Doubles finals. The 5th place qualifier will face the 4th place qualifier in a Best of 3 (first to win 2 games advances) AAU Baker contest. The winner will face the 3rd place qualifier and so on until a National Champion is crowned. Each division will have specific teams in their designated specific finals. The Top 5 Doubles Teams in each division will receive championship medals. Singles Event: The top 16 individuals will advance to the Finals Round. The Top 16 bowlers will bowl 3 games to determine the national finalists. Scores will not carry over from the qualifying rounds. After three games, the top 5 bowlers in each division will advance to the national stepladder finals. The 5th seed bowler will bowl one game against the 4th seed bowler. The winner will advance to play the 3rd seed bowler and that winner will bowl the 2nd seed bowler. The winner will advance to play the 1st seed bowler for the National Championship. The Top 5 bowlers in each division will receive medals. RULES: EQUIPMENT Each entrant must have a bowling ball for their individual use in the tournament. Only USBC approved bowling balls will be allowed and MUST have the manufacture’s name, product name and serial number clearly visible at all times for identification purposes. Any scores bowled using a bowling ball that does not meet the above requirements will not count. Random bowling ball checks may be done as deemed necessary by tournament staff. Bowling balls depicting alcohol, tobacco or gambling may not be used in competition. Tournament staff has the right to remove balls from tournament play that are deemed in violation of the rules. DRESS CODE New in 2013 (RULE CHANGE) Entrants are expected to wear suitable attire. Use good judgment when selecting the appropriate attire. Examples of appropriate attire: Collared shirts, mock-turtle necks and identical team t-shirts are allowed Dress slacks, shorts, skirts and jeans in good condition LENGTH OF SHORTS and SKIRTS: MUST BE TO FINGERTIP LENGTH WITH HANDS AT SIDE. APPROXIMATELY 6” FROM TOP OF KNEE. Tournament Director has final discretion/decisions on dress code. (Examples of prohibited attire include but are not limited to: Head gear – (for medical reasons only) T-shirts (except AAU t-shirts provided at Check-In), tank tops, halter tops, bare midriffs, spaghetti strap tops, etc. Workout attire, yoga pants, short shorts, short skirts, bib overalls, jeans that are not neat, clean or in good condition (no torn jeans) Attire depicting alcohol, tobacco, gambling, illegal substances or inappropriate language/gestures may not be worn in accordance with USBC Rule 301b.
