Position: Organist St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church (Winston-Salem, NC) www.sttimothysws.org/music St. Timothy’s is accepting applications for the position of Organist, with a start date of May 1, 2017. St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church is a vibrant parish in the Anglo-Catholic tradition in the historic Ardmore neighborhood of Winston-Salem, NC. St. Timothy’s mission is to reconcile people to God and each other in Christ through adoration, formation, and transformation. We have transitioned to an Episcopal Church in the Catholic tradition since the 2008 arrival of our priest, Fr. Steve Rice, who is very supportive St. Timothy’s music program. St. Timothy’s currently has a Parish Choir (supported by paid choral scholars), which sings the 9 A.M. ​ ​ Rite II mass. Our Schola Choir (supported by paid choral scholars) sings for the 11 A.M. Rite I high ​ ​ mass. Children’s choirs and choristers from our Choir School, who sang a week-long residency at Canterbury Cathedral last summer, sing once or twice a month. Choral Evensong and feast day evening masses, sung by the choir, choristers, and musical friends from the community, are a regular part of our adoration. We sing a variety of repertoire from the sacred western art music canon, from Byrd to MacMillan. We recently restored and installed a Hook and Hastings organ, which was dedicated in 2015. Responsibilities: ● Serve as organist for two Sunday morning masses (9 A.M. and 11 A.M.) and preceding rehearsals. The ​ ​ ​ ​ principal source for congregational hymns and service music is the Hymnal 1982. ● Accompany for weekly adult choir rehearsals Wednesdays 7-9 P.M. during the “program year” ​ ​ (Sept.-June). ● Select and play music for preludes, postludes, and other portions of the liturgy as required. Improvise as necessary during the liturgy. ● Assist with scheduling organ tuning and maintenance. ● Communicate regularly with the Director of Ministries to plan liturgical music. ● Play and accompany the choirs and soloists for special services such as Choral Evensong, Festival of Advent Lessons and Carols, Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week masses, and other weekday masses (usually one/month) as determined by the Rector and the Director of Music Ministries. ● Play for parish weddings and funerals as needed (supplementary compensation for weddings). Qualifications: ● Proficient as soloist, accompanist, and improvisor ● Flexible and able to work as part of a team ● Familiarity with Episcopal/Anglo-Catholic liturgy and Anglican Chant Description of the Organ: Hook & Hastings, opus 1801 (1898).
