Butz My great grandfather, John Ericson Castor, was born 22 Nov 1866 in Philadelphia, PA to George Washing- ton Castor and Susanna Ireland. I am not positive of Susanna's maiden name, but on John's Death Certificate, her name is listed as Susan Ireland. He died on 16 Mar 1944, his cause of death was cerebral thrombosis due to chronic myocarditis, and his occupation was farmer. The death certificate also states that John was born on Pattys Island, NJ, but I have seen other documents that state he was born in Philadelphia at 1232 Ann St., Port Richmond, Philadelphia County, PA. He is buried at Goshen Methodist Church cemetery in Goshen, NJ. John's father died in 1873 when John was 6 years old. In October 1873 John's mother and uncle John Cas- tor applied for John to be placed at Girard College For Orphans and he was admitted on 30 Dec 1875. Susan- na's address listed on the application is 1430 Richmond Street, Port Richmond. Question 7 on the application asks "what has been his general moral conduct? "Requires control was the answer." I was told that he ran away from Girard College, but Girard College has him listed as Expelled. I do not have a date for when that hap- pened. John was married to Mary E. Elliott on 23 March 1891 at 4th & New Street in Philadelphia by Geo. W. F. Graff, Minister of the Gospel. John was living at 107 Green Street, Philadelphia, his occupation was listed as seaman and his birthdate is listed as 22 Nov 1867. Mary was living at 1040 Beach Street, Phila- delphia. I was told that John was a Merchant Marine, but have not found any evidence of this. John and Mary had 9 children: Anna Louisa, George Washington, William Jennings Bryan, Naomi Ruth, Muriel Rose, Eric John, Alvin Raymond, Myrtle Elizabeth and Thelma Mary. Sometime after John and Mary Castor the last child was born they separated (it was before 1930 as John was in Goshen census in 1930 and Mary was in Chester, PA.). As far as I know they never divorced. I never met my great grandfather, but my grandmother said he sold produce in the summer at the beach. He lived in Goshen, NJ in his later years and my grandmother kept house for him. I have a picture of his truck that he used when he sold the produce --- it had a sign on the side that said "J.E.Castor, Goshen, NJ." Castor 1811-1872 George R. Castor was born 22 Jul 1811 and died on 4 Jul 1872, at age 60, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. George was buried on 7 Jul 1872 at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. He married Ann [--?--] before 1830. She was born 1807, died 6 May 1887, and was also buried at Cedar Hill Cem- etery. George and Ann's Children: 1. John Castor was born in 1830. 2. Elizabeth Ann Castor was born in 1832. George Washington Castor was born on 21 Feb 1838 at Frankford, Pennsylvania. He married Susanna Ireland [--?--], daughter of David Ireland, about 1858. He died on 31 Jan 1873 at Bridesburg, Pennsylvania, at age 34. He was buried on 3 Feb 1873 at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Bridesburg, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. 6. Sarah Castor was born in 1842. 7. Annie F. Castor was born in 1845. She died on 28 Dec 1866 at Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. She was buried on 31 Dec 1866 at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. Folden of Carpenter, and 6 children, Carol Jr., Sharon Lee, Sandra Kay, Stanley Fern, Danny Gene, Linda Darlene. Three other children died in infancy. Myrtle Caster - Class of 1932; is married to Leslie Canode of Carpenter. They have 2 children, Charles and Kenneth. William was apparently born 5 months after George died. George died 31 Jan 1873 in Bridesburg, Pennylvania, at age 34, of heart disease and was buried on 3 Feb 1873 at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Lot 150 Section A, Bridesburg, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
